Roster Management for 24-25

Anybody have any inside scoop on Kris Parker? Did he just need to get stronger and mature or was this a bit over his head? Know he had an injury early but I like the sound of having a 6' 9" guard.

I have the feeling that Stevenson will leave for the G league or something. Hope I'm wrong.
That kid’s heart isn’t in it yet. He may be amazing one day. But the moment is too big for him now.

Parker was injured but was healed and CNO also said he needed to get stronger. Here is an article from November.

Just to add to this a little, Coach Oats also said that the agreement to redshirt was also based around an understanding that we wouldn't change our mind later in the year and burn the redshirt, so it's simply not an option this year

EDIT: Found the article

I wonder the same about KP. Love that kind of length for a guard.

I really hope Stevenson stays at Bama. He'd only be the age of a true freshman next year. He's gotten stronger as the year has gone on, but he not ready for a game last night yet (if you can ever get ready for that!). But hope he comes back. I think he and Walters can break out year 2.

Honestly...if the roster is managed right (no significant transfers) with the recruiting class we have coming in (and if we could land that one special rim protector in a transfer) we would seem to be loaded for bear next year...significantly more so than this year!

Wrightsell isn’t a true PG. who is the main ball handler if Sears leaves?

Some are starting to think Sears could get an UDFA deal. Some teams might try to see if his game will translate. IDK how he gets half of his point driving among the trees with almost all of his shots getting contested, but HE DOES.

But he could also come back (with a 6th year available as I understand it) and give the NBA another whole year to look at his game.

If not? I think CNO probably needs to go to the portal. Good news, there's got to be a quality PG somewhere in America that would absolutely LOVE to play in CNO's offensive system.

Also, consider CNO is proving to be a savant in picking guys from the portal that perfectly fit his system. Our top scorers this year are all from the portal: Sears, Nelson, Estrada and Wrightsell.

I hope they all three stay. Nelson needs some work. He has really good skills, but sometimes he just disappears in games.

I agree on Nelson. He's been, as you say, MIA at times.

I thought he'd be an All-SEC type of player but I think the SEC athleticism overwhelmed him at times.

If he can resurrect this 3 point shot, he becomes very, very dangerous with his driving-to-the-basket ability and length.

But something happened during the season with his shot and he lost confidence in it. Seemed like he was guiding the 3 ball instead of just shooting it. But even his free throws aren't as dependable now.

IDK, but if he comes back and improves his shooting, his defense and maybe adds some muscle he could really make an even bigger impact next year.

Nelson needs to work on his shooting form. It's more of an overhead throw than a pushup from his legs.
He has an armsy type shot and it's basically a set shot, which is not uncommon with tall players.

But, it got off and he really never got it back. The one 3 he took against GSU was a brick of bricks. Hit the backboard about a foot high and to the left of the goals. Sears seemed to chastise him for taking it.

It seems like highly ranked players like Stevenson come in with the mindset that they’ll only be here a year regardless. I’m not saying that’s the case with him. Even though he was highly ranked and thought to be a plug in for Clowney, it was obvious throughout the year he wasn’t nearly developed to the same extent.

However, with the one year mindset you either prove yourself to be worthy of getting drafted or protect your “stock” or perception from high school by transferring out and insinuating it was the school’s issue, not the player’s. It makes sense especially when dads or agents are running their lives. Stevenson can be become a great player if he lives in the gym over the off season, loses the fear of driving inside rather than chucking threes and get much more aggressive with rebounding. I hope he develops those skills at UA.
