If this wasn't posted, I found this elsewhere:

It's actually not even an interpretation, the rule is very cut and dry. Even if the flag was thrown for removing the helmet, the foul would not have been enforced and the game would be over because the game is never extended to enforce a live ball treated as a dead ball. Here are the two rules that cover this situation:

Rule 9-2-1:

There shall be no unsportsmanlike conduct or any act
that interferes with orderly game administration on the part of players,
substitutes, coaches, authorized attendants or any other persons subject to
the rules, before the game, during the game or between periods.

a: Specifically prohibited acts and conduct include:

(f) Removal of a player’s helmet before he is in the team area
(Exceptions: Team, media or injury timeouts; equipment
adjustment; through play; between periods; and during a
measurement for a first down).

Penalty: Dead-ball foul or live-ball foul treated as dead-ball foul.
15 yards [S7 and S27] from the succeeding spot. Flagrant
offenders, if players or substitutes, shall be disqualified
[S47]. If a player or an identified squad member in uniform
commits two unsportsmanlike fouls in the same game, he
shall be disqualified.

Rule 3-2-3:

Extension of Periods

a. A period shall be extended for an untimed down (other than
a try) if during a down in which time expires one or more of the following
occurs (A.R. 3-2-3-I-VIII):

1. A penalty is accepted for a live-ball foul(s) not treated as a dead-ball
foul
(Exception: Rule 10-2-5-a). The period is not extended if the
statement of the penalty includes loss of down (A.R. 3-2-3-IX).

1) Game was over.

Even if it wasn't...

2) Alabama recovered the block.

Even if it hadn't...

3) Change of possession.

Even if we were flagged...

4) We still take a knee and the game is still over.

Even if we somehow fumble the ball in the process of taking a knee and Tennessee recovers...

5) What makes anyone think that after two blocked kicks and several wide right misses even during half-time practice, the Tennessee kicker is going to pull off the game winning score after Saban uses his third and final time out and ices the dude AGAIN?

I know Slive made a statement on it - does anyone know exactly what it was he said? Did he say it wasn't a penalty, or did he explain the above rule and that it wouldn't of mattered if the ref did throw a flag? - the game still would of been over.

that rule is a little confusing to common super fan like me :) so Kiffen probably has no shot at comprehending it.

This is UT's (mistaken) thinking..
(1) Taking off your helmet is a penalty
(2) Alabama was on defense when then play began
(3) They game can't end on a defensive penalty
(4) Therefore, UT gets a re-kick, 15 yards closer in

What they refuse to accept is that taking off your helmet is not the same as roughing the passer - you don't replay the down.

They also fail to realize that once the kicker's foot hit the ball, they were no longer the offensive team. It's just like how a personal foul on the receiving team during a punt return doesn't result in a first down for the kicking team. This point really doesn't even matter, though.
