Zelensky speaks about a peace plan NATO member ship in exchange for writing off the Donbas and Crimea.

There are constitutional problems.

President-elect Donald Trump's team spoke with top Ukrainian officials on how to end the country's war with Russia. A key tenet of Trump's strategy is to get both sides to the negotiating table as quickly as possible, NewsNation's Robert Sherman said. However, the issue of Ukraine joining NATO will be the biggest subject preventing negotiations, he said.

I don't see how Ukraine is going to get occupied territory back. Maybe a compromise acceptable to Ukraine is gaining some sort of "associate" status in NATO, where the West helps rebuild Ukraine's defenses and economy to such a level that Russia would not want to tangle with them again. Hell, Russia bled enough at the hands of a largely unprepared and vastly outmanned Ukraine.

Just spit balling here. I wonder what @Tidewater thinks would be a compromise that both could accept.

This should be a lesson to all of Europe. Get your act together militarily. You just may need it.

As long as Putin is alive, he wants all of Ukraine, but will settle for what he now has.

As for getting their militaries together, Denmark had an election in which the main question was: increase social safety net spending or increase military spending and, even after Russia's invasion, Danes opted for increasing social safety net spending. When pressed on the question, Danes said, "If push comes to shove, the Americans will bail us out."

Not if they ask for me to vote on it. That attitude is sadly pervasive, and frankly, I don't want a single dime going to help these countries anymore. Protect yourself first, then help your people if you can - that's the fundamental tenet of what government is supposed to be about in the first place - protection.

We have taught the Europeans for decades that if they don't spend enough on defense, we'll be there anyway.
Just today I was talking to a European colleague that in 1941 the United States had the 41st largest army in the world. Romania had a bigger army than the US did in 1941. Then in 1944, the US devoted 50% of its GDP to defense. It's probably cheaper and more efficient to spend more in peace so you don't have to spend that much money during war. But what do I know?

After Jan 20, they wont.

You mean a convicted felon who wants to surrender to an occupying force who also is an enemy of the US.
Blessed are the appease-makers.
Zelenskyy said 43,000 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed and 370,000 wounded.

Does this factor into your thinking anywhere, I wonder?

It does mine.

Ukraine can’t drive the Russians out of the territory they have occupied. I wish they could, but it’s not going to happen. I’ve been for supporting them from the jump, but how does this war end? It can’t go on forever. Europe needs an off ramp. How that looks I don’t really know. Can you let Russia keep some territory while arming Ukraine to the teeth and even extending NATO and EU membership? I don’t know how all of this should go but we have to find an off-ramp and no one will get all they want. Russia wants all of Ukraine and they aren’t getting it. Ukraine wants it all back including the crimea and they aren’t getting that either. How do we land this plane?

The war has been going on for what....3 years now? Doesn't seem like either party will get what they want so I'm in favor of ending it - period.

See @AWRTR 's post above as well for what I feel is an accurate assessment.

People can make whatever argument they want for or against the war. I'm for ending it today if it saves lives and stops the destruction.

I take it from the perspective of what would I want if say the Cubans landed in Mobile AL, pushed north to Montgomery, west to New Orleans and east to Talahasse. Would you want to cede that land to them after losing 40K Americans in the fight to date? I wouldn't but this is exactly what you are asking Ukraine to do....

I can't speak for Bazza but I'd be happy to use our resources to fight those invading our country.

Ending it now will just encourage actions such as Putins. Ask Chamberlin about placating agressors. If Zelinski thinks its worth it he should be supported.
