Saban inducted into Independence Bowl Hall of Honor
Returning to Louisiana, Nick Saban feels at peace with LSU fans nowNick Saban was inducted into the Independence Bowl Hall of Honor on Thursday night at a ceremony at the East Ridge Country Club in Shreveport.
The honor comes six months after Saban’s University of Alabama football team defeated the Colorado Buffaloes 30-24 in the 2007 PetroSun Independence Bowl. Saban shared the honor this year with former Miami (Ohio) University and Indiana head football coach Terry Hoeppner, who was inducted posthumously, and former LSU quarterback Herb Tyler. Jane Hoeppner was on hand to accept the honor one year after her husband lost his battle with brain cancer.
There was much speculation as to how the passionate college football fans in Louisiana would handle Saban's return to the state after he bolted LSU for the NFL on Christmas Day in 2004, only to return to the Southeastern Conference as the head coach of Western Division rival Alabama in '07.
According to Saban, Christmas time in Shreveport was a pleasant surprise.
