This topic has been beaten to death with several multi-page threads at the time the announcement was made. I guess this will take its place alongside the white helmet/uniform change/BDS turf, wishbone etc. threads...
I have seen the mold for the sculpture and it is quite different from all of the others. That was the true delay. Saban disapproved of the stoic "grandfather-like" stance. The company that made the others used generic molds for all of the bodies. That is like a spit to the face of a sculptor, especially when Alabama has one of the best sculptors in the country teaching on campus. Saban's sculpture, pose, expression, etc. is extremely unique and I believe it will eventually lead to all of the others being redone.
This is a question I asked myself long before the Auburn game .Realizing all the great things Saban has done for our football program, when I heard about the Saban statue I told a fellow Bama fan and a good friend of mine that I thought that was rushing things a bit. He disagreed. What do you guys think? My thinking is that Bear won six NC's and it's kind of disrespectful to him to equate Saban's one NC and short term success by erecting a statue along side of the Bear.I'm sure many of you will disagree.
I thought the holdup was getting the players names included at CNS's insistence. Well, that and the hair wasn't right.
I think the "names thing" has been completed but they're not listed at the statues. I noticed Friday walking up the Walk of Champions that the players and coaches names were listed by each National Championship marker. I don't recall those being there before this year. I may be wrong.
You get a statue if you win a National Title. Notice I said a National Title, as in 1. Saban's done that.
However, I do think it was a bit premature. I don't like the idea of having a statue for anyone unless they've retired or died. I think as flattered as CNS was at having a statue erected in his honor, he too knew it was a bit premature, hence the delay.
Is there any need for me to throw out the big M-O-O here?

You do realize there is a statue of Gene Stallings not 50 feet from the statue of CPB?This is a question I asked myself long before the Auburn game .Realizing all the great things Saban has done for our football program, when I heard about the Saban statue I told a fellow Bama fan and a good friend of mine that I thought that was rushing things a bit. No. The statue isn't premature. Whenever it's ready, it should be dedicated. If you win a NC, you get a statue. I don't see what the debate's about?
We need to be careful and not try to to kill the goose to get more golden eggs...
