A FSU fan got a little snippy with me elsewhere and also said Alabama was only in because they were in the SEC. Of course I had to bring up the fact that FSU turned down a chance to join the SEC and glad to know this guy worked that in because literally not one member of the media that I've seen has brought this up.

Here's an actual quote by the way:
" They did want us, they did invite us to join the SEC. Everybody thought we would join. In fact, I thought we would but our administration — the president and others — wanted the ACC, which really was better for us. It would have been hard wading through that SEC. Too many good teams in there, boy. Oh, gosh. Oh, that would have been some great ball."

The playoff spot was served up on a silver platter for FSU. All they had to do was get one convincing win in their last two games.

Sure, it was a more difficult task to win convincingly against Louisville with their third-string QB but, on the other hand, Louisville did get whipped by Kentucky the week before so it wasn't a big ask.

Even so, barely slipping by Louisville would have been excused had they simply gotten a convincing win (with the QB who was going to be starting for them in the playoffs if they made it) against a hapless Florida team who was already on a four-game losing streak and also having to start their backup QB.

They failed to do either and that opened the door...
