HOOVER, AL –
Alabama baseball's run in the 2022 SEC Tournament came to an end on Saturday at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium as the Crimson Tide fell to Florida, 11-6. The Tide finished 2-2 in the league's postseason tourney and sits at 31-27 overall on the season.

Florida jumped out front early with a four-run first, but Alabama answered with four runs of their own to set things even after one. The Gators added one run apiece in the second and third with UA posting two in the home half of the third to make it a 6-6 ballgame. Florida regained the lead with one in the sixth before a four-run ninth put things out of reach for an 11-6 final.

Alabama's offense totaled 10 hits, including two doubles and a pair of home runs, to keep pace with UF until the ninth. Zane Denton led the Tide in RBI with three as part of his 1-for-3 day that included a home run and one run scored. Also homering was Drew Williamson as the senior finished 2-for-3 with two walks to go with a pair of RBI and two runs scored. Caden Rose led the Tide in hits at 3-for-5 with a double and one run scored.

Jake Leger (1-1) suffered the loss despite a strong outing out of the pen. The junior entered in the second and proceeded to toss a season-high tying 4.0 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Florida reliever Nick Ficarrotta (4-0) picked up the win, working the final 6.1 scoreless frames.

From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"It was a really hard-fought loss for us today. Hats off to Florida's offense – really tough lineup, especially the top five or six hitters, really challenging. I'm really proud of the fight our guys showed. We gave up the four spot in the first and came right back and scored. That's been the one thing that's been consistent about our team this year is that they really leave it all on the field and give us everything they have. We just couldn't quite do enough out of the bullpen today. It's our seventh game in 10 days against a top-25 opponent, and that's a challenge for any team."

How It Happened
  • T1 | The Gators used four hits, a walk and a hit-by-pitch to score four, highlighted by a solo homer from Wyatt Langford. (4-0, Florida)
  • B1 | Caden Rose led things off with a double and moved to third on an infield groundout. Rose would come across to score in the next at-bat thanks to an RBI-single from Dominic Tamez. A walk to Drew Williamson then put two aboard for Zane Denton. The Tide third baseman capitalized on the opportunity, evening things up with a three-run home run to right-center. (4-4)
  • T2 | Langford led off the inning with his second home run of the day. (5-4, Florida)
  • T3 | A groundout to first with runners in scoring position added one more for UF. (6-4, Florida)
  • B3 | William Hamiter singled to start the inning and came home one out later on a two-run home run from Williamson. (6-6)
  • T6 | With runners on the corners, a 1-6-3 double play cut down two but allowed the go-ahead run to cross for the Gators. (7-6, Florida)
  • T9 | Florida used two hits and a walk to add four more, including a Mac Guscette three-run home run. (11-6, Florida)
Postgame Notes
  • Jake Leger matched his season-high total for innings pitched with 4.0. Leger also had 4.0 at Ole Miss on April 9.
  • Caden Rose tied his career-high total for hits with another three-hit performance in Hoover. Rose led the Crimson Tide offense in the SEC Tournament, batting .438 (7-16) with two doubles, a triple, two RBI, six runs and three walks.
  • Rose has reached base safely in 18 straight games dating back to April 25 against Georgia.
  • Jim Jarvis has reached base in 16 straight games dating back to April 28 at South Carolina.
Alabama will now wait on Monday's NCAA Tournament selection show to find out if the Crimson Tide's 2022 campaign will continue. The postseason bracket will be revealed live at 11 a.m. CT on ESPN2.
