They thought Freeze was a god because he beat CNS back-to-back seasons.

hindsight is 20/20 and the world if full of what if's. What if after the 2019 season, Auburn fired Gus instead of giving him a huge contract. FSU hired Gus to replace Willie Taggart. Gus' recruiting grounds don't change much from Auburn to FSU as its a 3.5 hour drive between the two. Auburn hires Lane Kiffin to replace Gus and Sam Pittman still goes to Arkansas. Ole Miss hires Mel Tucker

If I were a college football coach looking for a job, I would 100% take a job at South Carolina over Auburn. Way less toxic of an environment, better facilities, less expectations. South Carolina also did much better in getting beamer than auburn did in getting harsin

I think it’s kind of how you look at it. South Carolina is kind of a place you can work on your craft If you are a young coach. Expectations are low (playing the clemson of today is kind of a bugaboo though) they have been to sec title game once in history. They are in the weaker division of the sec. (Playing Georgia every year isn’t ideal though) It’s not a program obsessed with beating Alabama every year. (Even though they treat that 2010 win like it was the holy grail)

as a slight side note, think of all the money that Alabama has been able to make by keeping Saban for 15 years. Money that has been able to be spent on facilities and such. How much money have other programs spent by firing coaches trying to keep up with Saban?

True but Auburn is still a desirable job, and they didn’t have to settle on a hot head from Boise with no personality. They screwed up and tried to fix it but failed.

"Desirable"? That may likely be a diminishing status with the continuous shenanagins going on in the later years. How many coaches from Power 5 schools would jump for joy to go to Auburn? Yes, several from Group of 5 would take the chance to improve their stature and get the big front end bucks.
