I think the "spirit of the game" and the "spirit of the rules" have been grossly overlooked in CFB when it comes to hurry-up offenses.

If we truly went by the spirit of the game, how these hurry-up offenses work would never have been allowed. It burns me up to watch a referee sprint to try to spot a ball to help the team run their hurry-up offense. That's not his job. His job is to spot the ball and ensure all his crew is properly in place to call the next play. It isn't to help the offense run their style or pace of play.

I'd expect that they would come to resent the pressure this puts on the officiating. Why in the world would they sprint to help a team? Not saying they don't do it. I just don't get why. Is there some sort of target number on the amount of time the offense should have on the play clock?

Completely 100% agree.

Also, something I feel in the favor of real football down the road, once coaches understand the TP has depleted the talent (and NIL has made starts mostly uncoachable), we'll go back to ball-control football. Otherwise, the game will continue to stink.

Because they’ve been told to. Offense sells tickets and ESPN Sportscenter views.

How many times over the years have we seen this very thing happen? Officials run to spot the ball and the entire crew is out of position. Then they miss an illegal formation, a hold, ineligible receiver down field or someone lined up off sides. The hurry up is as much about catching the officials off guard as it is the defense.
