Just received email from UA about possible severe weather in T Town tonight. I have 2 kids at school at UA and live out of state. Can someone local please tell me what's up? I checked weather channel and it appears will be bad after 12 midnight tonight.
Thank you

We ~3 hrs away (to the SW); we're supposed to have rough weather early in the a.m. up thru ~ daybreak. Many S. MS schools are delaying opening for a couple of hours to let the worst pass. Hope that helps.

We will be paying the piper tonight. They are calling for the 60s today and thunder storms with high winds tonight.

Not to downplay the threat of bad weather, but are we to the point of closing everything down whenever it rains now? I am in Birmingham, and unless I see something change drastically within the next 30 minutes, I am calling this yet another wolf cry by the weather men. Birmingham has supposedly been "under the gun" since just after Midnight last night, yet all we have had is a good bit of rain. Not much wind. No thunder or lightening. Yet, here we sit awaiting an all clear. Somebody cue "It's the End of the World as We Know it" by REM. LOL! The weather guys are trying to save face by telling us Birmingham folks that we "aren't out of the woods" and "these things have a tendency to re-ignite without warning". I appreciate the weather men and all that they do, and I can understand not taking any chances after what happened on April 27, 2011, but today they went a little overboard. I

Yep. My wife was like "would you wait a little while before you leave for work and let this settle down". I'm 44 years old. Have driven back and forth to work for 27 years now thru wind, rain, snow, hail, dark, 4 tornadoes...you name it. I told her...it's raining...I'm going to work. Some folks are just scared of their shadow.

The weather folks can spin this thing however they want, but the fact is, they were wrong. Period. I don't know how it was outside of Birmingham, but in Birmingham and the surrounding areas, (where we were supposed to get hammered) they missed it big time. They have caused all kinds of closings and for what? Rain? Sheesh! They will never admit that they overestimated this "monster", they will only attempt to save face. They will say "well, it did rain a lot, so there is your flash flooding". One of them is still on tv trying to sell the seriousness of all this rain. And, naturally, the the city is at a standstill. Nice.

And if they didn't do that, and it was a serious storm, and people got out in it and injuries/wrecks happened... there'd be complaints because of that.

It's not a matter of being right or wrong.

there'd be complaints
the best 3-word summary of the internet i've ever seen.

we've already had sirens twice this morning and look to be getting the brunt of the next line of storms as well and it is nasty hot/humid outside. i'm usually not bothered by impending storms, but the way it feels outside right now and being at home with the little one has me a bit concerned. hopefully, it will be nothing.

I'm sure predicting how the atmosphere will work is so easy. Doubt the NWS or the local meteorologists really cared about throwing out such warnings as those today.

You don't live in Birmingham do you? If you could see what a standstill the city has been brought to simply because of rain, I think you would get where I'm coming from. You would have thought that the end of all mankind was upon us by the way they talking up until about an hour ago. Heck, one of our weather men is still trying to sell this thing as armageddon. I'm thankful for our weather men and certainly appreciate what they do, but they (sometimes) do go overboard and cause a ton of headaches over nothing.
