Referees and events announced today by Brian Shaw.

Referees
Van Hatfield
Chad Coy

Shaw also announced that it will be a two day competition with six events.

Day 1
Log press for max weigh
t
*Great line up with current WR holder Zydrunas Savickas, current American record holder Rob Kearney, and former American record holder Robert Oberst

Super Yoke
*Weight to be determined, but with a short course, it will be two stages: out of the gate to the line and set it down, pick it back up, and head back to the start

Farmer's Medley
*Three implements: Two sets of the traditional "farmer's walk" with the third implement being a frame, similar to what is used at the Arnold Classic

Day 2
Hummer tire deadlift

*Several strong pullers in the field that could pull 1100 pounds with Savickas, Shaw, Caron, and Pritchett capable of pulling out the win

Circus Dumbbell for reps
*Always fun to watch with athletes going head to head. Will be very interesting to see who gets paired up, based on the standings

Atlas stones
*Slight change from the traditional set up of five, with Shaw stating there will be anywhere between six and eight.

No official word yet, but I'm pretty certain Poland's Mateusz Kieliszkowski is out of the Shaw Classic, given he just withdrew from World's Strongest Man coming up in two weeks. Word is he reinjured the tricep that required surgery back in May while training for the log press ladder event.

Evan Singleton was injured over the weekend at the World's Strongest Man in Bradenton, FL. I would imagine the injury will keep him out of the Shaw Classic.

It would amazing if the new World's Strongest Man, Okeksii Novikov, steps in and takes his place.

Unfortunately. professional strongmen don't have a long lifespan. Olympic lifters, on the other hand, seem to live much longer, though not the super heavyweights, generally.

The current line-up, as far as I know:
  • Zydrunas Savickas
  • Mateusz Kieliszkowski (injured)
  • J. F. Caron
  • Robert Oberst
  • Adam Bishop
  • Terry Hollands
  • Rob Kearney (injured) - Evan Singleton (injured) - ???
  • Jerry Pritchett
  • Maxime Boudrault
  • Brian Shaw
It will be interesting to see who replaces the injured athletes, or if they will be replaced, given the ever un-improving COVID situation.

I have to admit, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Big Z does. He basically took this year off to heal from some injuries, and is not only getting back to a full competition schedule next year, but he's also looking to break his own world record in the log press of 228 kg.

Well, we have one injury replacement named: "The Highland Oak" Luke Stoltman. His younger brother, Tom "The Albatross," also received an invite. but declined to focus his prep on Britain's Strongest Man coming up at the end of February.

It would seem that there is still one replacement needed, since Tom declined. No word yet on who it will be.

And, our second, and hopefully final, injury replacement for the Shaw Classic is 2020 World's Strongest Man Oleksii Novikov.

So, the lineup looks like . . .
  • Zydrunas Savickas
  • Mateusz Kieliszkowski (injured) - Luke Stoltman
  • J. F. Caron
  • Robert Oberst
  • Adam Bishop
  • Terry Hollands
  • Rob Kearney (injured) - Evan Singleton (injured) - Oleksii Novikov
  • Jerry Pritchett
  • Maxime Boudrault
  • Brian Shaw
Should be a great competition, with a terrific group of strongmen competing.

For anyone wanting to watch the Shaw Classic, it can only be seen on Brian Shaw's paywall website, club.shawstrength.com, and will be broadcast Saturday and Sunday, December 12th and 13th. The cost is $8.99/month, but you can cancel at any time. Brian is also on record saying that he's happy with anyone who only wants to sign up to see the contest and then cancel, FWIW.

Full results haven't been released, but from what I've found the top 3 was . . .

1. Brian Shaw
2. J.F. Caron
3. Oleksii Novikov

Given the location, Shaw was expected to win. And, by that, Shaw lives in Colorado, and as far as I know, he was the only one accustomed to training and lifting at elevation.
