I am not sure what leverage we have.....if we told the SEC we were leaving they would prob laugh at us. Bama could not survive being an independent with our entire school centered around scheduled dedicated to the SEC in baseball, basketball, football, and others....schools would NOT jump at playing an independent that is very good. Join the Big Least? Wow...what a backwards, embaressing move for our school.

There are no positives whatsoever leaving the SEC where the money flows.

Well, the "Big Least" (as you refer to them) has a few National Championships in the past few years. Look it up. If they don't get a school like ours soon, they will be out of the BCS. You can bet that they would love to have us - and a few other schools might follow soon therafter. If you think so highly of the SEC, you clearly are not concerned about ethics or integrity. Some things are more important than money...

I guess stupid may have been a little harsh and an overstatement. I just don't see it happening and can't really understand why someone would want it to. Now, if we could get 30 or 40 of the bigtime programs to leave the NCAA and form a new orginization, now that would be something to look forward to.

I support you on getting a large group to leave the ncaa.

I don't think Bama needs to leave the SEC.

The SEC won't be around much longer, so it's a moot point.

Can you say...SWC?

Why do you think this?

If we were to leave the only Conf. i could see us leaving for would be the ACC.

There are only 2 scenarios that seem possible: 1.) A team switch, such as Alabama and FSU both decide to switch conferences. 2.) Another conference expansion frenzy, where for example, the big 10 decides it needs 14 teams and takes Notre Dame, Kentucky, and Alabama. Or ACC expands and goes after Florida and Alabama (but in that case, Georgia actually makes more sense).

Both of those possibilities are extremely remote. Rivalries have become entrenched. Fans would not like giving up games with SEC teams.

The Tide,

Thanks for your words of wisdom. If this is a dumb thread, your response is truly moronic. If you want to add to the dialog, please do so.

You don't believe that Alabama can effect change through threats to leave?

Sorry if you take an offense to this thread being dumb, but it is. You suggest Alabama should pick up their toys and go home. Who would care? Do you actually think the SEC would beg us to stay and promise change? If so you are living in a fantasy world.

The one thing Alabama has to do is recruit and win games.

The only school that did anything left for the ACC and the conference is looked at as an utter and complete joke from every corner of the country.

The payout is nowhere close to what the SEC is nor are any of the contracts football TV wise....

Rivalries? Do you realize who we would be playing? My gracias it would be a joke.

I am sorry but this just isn't an option under any circumstances.

Leaving the SEC would be like moving out of the house you built, because the in-laws moved in. Bama, more than any other school, is responsible for building the SEC into the nation's premier football conference. It's not time to leave, but it is time to step up and take our home back.

Rivalries can change. Why do you think that one of the lines in Yea, Alabama! is "send the Yellow Jackets to a watery grave?" At one time they were Bama's biggest rival, and Coach Bryant used to love to win at Grant Field in Atlanta against Coach Dodd. Bama would develop new rivals if we left the SEC. The Viles and Barners are low class rivals anyway. I enjoy the fans from classy schools like Oklahoma, Penn State, and Nebraska much more when we play them.

Don't have to leave the SEC

Alabama won't have to worry about leaving the SEC...if things keep going the way they're going now, with coaches turning each other in at the drop of a hat, the SEC will be extinct within 10 years, just like the Southwest Conference. Some of us might be old enough to remember when the SWC was the power conference in the country, and thought something like that could never happen. But when Houston entered the league with their renegade recruiting tactics, they forced others (SMU, UT, A&M) to do the same thing. Thus, within 15 years of Houston coming into the SWC (1974), the league was extinct.

Don't think it can't happen....because it can....and has happened before.

Of course you should leave the SEC.

It's an obvious line of thinking, one that generations before you made every time the going got tough, landing your pathetic asses in the single-wides you now occupy...Beeotch up. Cut and run. Take your toys and go home.
The SEC is where the big boys play, and you appear to be fresh out of friends.
Now the MAC or the WAC, now THERE'S some options for you. Right up your alley. I mean, after all, didn't Northen Illinois come down and wear y'all out just last year?
You people ought to be ashamed of yourselves for even talking about this crap. You do realize that this is the WORLD WIDE web, right? Let me explain it to you...it means the WORLD can get on this site and see what a disgrace y'all are. Unbelievable. Just can't get out of you're own way, can you?

Haha. It's because the Admins have the option enabled that bumps the thread to the top everytime someone votes. I've gotten quite a few e-mails of a new message just to come here to see that someone voted.
