It's good seeing the "stalwarts" agreeing with our benevolent dictator. There may be compromise through power!

I like a lot of the ideas, but a realignment of CFB football conferences is not going to happen. Brett's idea does not require that type of realignment, though it would require that the conferences grow or shrink to an equal size. But there are great ideas all over this thread.

Not a bad idea, but I don't see Power 5 schools giving up 2-3 home games worth of lost revenue each year.
well, given the turnout at this years nonconference games, I think a convincing argument is made that nobody cares about those 2-3 games. I understand why they are played and they’re good games for non-season ticket holders to attend Yada Yada. However I think with my setup the TV revenue would be enormous and offset any games not played. Obviously I have no proof this is the case but seems common sense to me.

One other benefit might be in Power 5 recruiting since the non-P5 schools would no longer be eligible for the only championship that matters Maybe they stop investing money they don’t have in facilities They don’t need and thus P5 schools potentially add depth from talented guys who might otherwise go to a UCF type school.

no doubt there are many problems with my scheme - not the least of which will come from the pointy headed academics who believe in sports socialism (I don’t). I fail to understand how it benefits Bama if WCU comes to TTown to get drilled and counts their briefcases stuffed with $100’s on the way back to catamountVille! ... and I truly only care about Alabama.

one can dream.

One problem with an all Power 5 schedule is that it makes things a bit harder for a team to run the table. Seems nice in a way to have 2 or 3 auto-wins each season so we only have to worry about 9 or 10 games. Tougher opponents can also lead to more injuries to key players since reserves would see less action.

NO, NO, NO. A thousand times no. Not because I object but because I want to hear the idiot (and I do mean idiot(s)) like Timmy B and the Sunbelt Commissioner whine all the time. It is a hoot. Whine, whne, whine. ps. if we had a 120 team playoff someone would whine about the 8 that got left out.

It may not matter. In 20 years there may not be enough football players to effectively field enough teams, and I’m not sure there would be nearly enough who care to watch. As the old foagies die out, there aren’t as many taking their place.

Maybe it’s 30 years. Don’t know. But a generation or two can change the landscape dramatically.

Enjoy it while it’s still here.

that was my Gray impersonation. Did I pull that off?

I want to go back to 2 teams. More than 4 would alter the game of college football to the point of making it unrecognizable, due to having a negative impact on the meaningfulness of the regular season.

We'll never go back to two.

I didn't mind the "Plus One" concept.

Four - to me - should be the absolute max.

No conference champs!!! That will not give you the best teams year in and year out...earn it, don't have it handed to you so you can get your backside handed to you in a semi...
the absolute max for me would be 5 conference champs and 1 at large. Im good with what we have now. rtr

We may be in with one or 2 of these happening but here are the 3 games I think are most important and the scenario I'm hoping for

1. We beat Auburn and style points help.
2. Oregon beats Utah
3. Baylor beats Oklahoma (or Oklahoma loses to Okie State)

I don't know why all you people want to keep a 4 team playoff especially if we had a 6 team this year. We would be in at 5 at worst...

In a perfect world, what I would really like to see is the playoff committee abolished. Take the original computerized BCS formula, update it and make it available publically each week. The Tuesday after all the conference championship games are completed have the results revealed. The results would be to have the 4-6-8 best teams selected by the established metrics to arrive at the best teams. There would be no extra consideration given for conference champions, injured players are any other non quantitative factors.
