There is nothing wrong with Shula's playcalling. Or his coaching. It is by far more aggressive than Gene Stallings's or even Bear Bryant's. Of course CBB and CGS had great experienced talent during their tenure's. Shula has had an under talented, under experienced team (lack of quality depth) since he arrived, that has overachieved! Not taking anything away from last years team, but in most of the sec games they played, they were outgunned, yet still found away to win. That is coaching!

It will be 2008 before Shula enjoy's the same quality and depth that the other upper tier SEC teams have. Bama did so well last year by playing great defense and not losing games on offense. (Don't beat yourself). Last week Bama beat themselves. Did Shula play it close to the vest at the end. Absolutley, and he should have. It was lack of execution that lost that ball game, not coaching.

On to Florida. Bama plays very well today. I think the Swamp Lizards are overrated. I think Chris Leak is overrated, and I think Urban Cryer is overrated. The way you handle swamps is to drain them. Last time I checked, Bama had a 3 game when streak going against Florida. Bama was a heavy underdog in all those games also. I think Bama has the potential to do the exact same thing they did last year. Bama wins this one I think, but if they don't, all is not lost.
Have faith Bama Nation. Things are progressing in the right direction. Just my .02.

What happened to 2007? I thought we were supposed to be ready to compete for an NC in 07. Are we back peddling? ;)

I hope you're right, but, at this point and time, I have to disagree with just about everything in your post! I am beginning to take exception with the coaching, more so this year than at any other point of CMS tenure. That said, I do hope you are right. If so, I will gladly look like the fool, but I'm just not very encouraged about some things right now. Who knows, for a long while I was a "sunshine pumper", and maybe now I'm just a "doom and gloom" person?

Just because you're not a sunshine pumper does not make you a doom and gloom person. Perhaps you are just taking a realistic and objective view of our current situation. The sunshine pumpers don't have the ability to do that.

How dare you post something logical and intelligent on a message board! These things are just for bashing coaches and players!

Re: For all you Shula Bashers

Shula has the program on track, building and improving year over year. Realizing that the Bama Nation wants to win everything (myself included), we just do not have the team talent and experience to always reach those expectations.
Shula took on this job when we were in a meltdown mode. He had to rebuild from the ground up, and I feel the progress has been very good. Last week was certainly disappointing, but everybody close to college football realize that we are a better team than the final score indicated. This was a crazy game that just did not go our way. It happens to all teams at some point. The objective from this point is to learn and improve week over week.
Shula needs a break from the bashing until he gets talent and experience to level the playing field.
Nobody knows how the team will react in the Florida game. I want a win in the worse way. If we come up short, I want us to "show" well (avoid embarrassment). This is important because it helps our recruitment efforts in the State of Florida.

Just because someone has concerns about how the team is playing, and just because someone is NOT a sunshine pumper...does NOT make them a Shula basher nor a player basher.

You should apply for a job as Shula's publicist or something.

Nice post JW4!! ;)

Re: For all you Shula Bashers

I thought CMS and staff called an excellent game. Last week i did not think that.
Gutsy effort by the entire team and coaching staff.

Heck, let's just give Coach Shula and the staff until 2012 to get us back up to where we should be. That's fair, don't you think?

You're right Deliveryman35!!! We should be defending our 3rd straight National Championship this season. There are NO excuses! We are Alabama, and because that alone we should win it all every year. Right?? You are brilliant!!

0-15 when trailing after 3 quarters. Many of these have been close football games. It isn't asking much to expect one win out of 15. We're not Vandy.

Re: For all you Shula Bashers

Not sure how to respond. I guess that you think that Shula isn't the answer?

I want with all my heart for him to be the answer. I just have an abiding fear that he isn't. All I need is 1 comeback. Just a little hope.

Good reply. I know that he has helped us get here from there, but how far he can take us is still to be determined. I'll assume that he will continue to improve, just as his teams have. But he has to solve the problems in the red zone before next season...

Re: For all you Shula Bashers

So, Shula is to blame again? Tell us what you would have done differently.

Tidefan in AU,

I wouldn't dignify all these Shula bashers with a response. They just don't seem to get it. He is our coach, and he will BE our coach for years to come. Coach Moore and Dr. Witt have said so. End of discussion and debate.

I'm not sure that there has been any Shula bashing on this thread. As NYBF stated, he's the man who has gotten us to this point. We can now play with anyone. The question is, can he take us to the next level? And I think the general tone is that it doesn't look good, but we will wait and see.
