Link: Source: Florida job Kirby Smart's to turn down

i tend to doubt the 1.5 mil thing. its just not likely, i cant imagine muschamp would make near 3.

As for the "sabans hard to work for" thing. you all know who will muschamp is right????

i just dont see him making the lateral move.

I can see bama countering with a hciw title and raise to a mil, however i hate the idea of paying a cooridinator that much.

If CKS gets 1.5 million, he will have gone from 200k to 1.5 million in 2 years. Are we going to have to renegotiate his contract every year? Time to pass the hat for Kirby again guys...

I would doubt UF offered him $1.5M. UF traditionally has not paid it's assistants as well as some other programs because Foley (at least in the past) does not believe in paying Football assistant coaches more than the Head coaches of other sports.

The philosophy may have changed after a season like we just experienced, but historically that has been the case.

I can't imagine CNS getting on board with a HCIW. There is one voice for this program - Nick Saban's.

Probably because he's the one actually running it. Kevin Steele was the "hot defensive coordinator" while under Saban and since leaving hasn't proved to the world that it was him and not really Saban. I don't think it would be a wise choice for Kirby to go to UF under a FIRST TIME head coach. For the main reason of potentially throwing cold water on his fire right now. If he goes to UF and in the first year things don't go well, his defense starts getting torched then his stock takes a huge hit. He stays at Bama and odds are it won't.

I definitely agree. Smart has job security in T-town, and he might get a shot at replacing Saban one of these days? I was just listing some reasons he might go. Like someone said earlier working for your friend isn't always good.

Let's ask ourselves this question. Could Coach Smart be a candidate at a decent school for HC position in the near future (like UGA or some other vacancy)? If the answer is yes, then why make a move to a first year HC who has absolutely no HC experience and risk having your stock take a nose dive?

Working for friends or family is almost never good.

This. I've worked with family and friends. Notice I said "worked" as in past. Will never make that mistake again.

I love Kirby, but I'm not a huge fan of the HCIW thing. Muschamp just proved that it doesn't necessarily mean you will be the guy, and I don't see CNS stepping aside anytime soon.

UF's 247Sports affilliate is reporting that Bo Davis and Kirby Smart have turned down UF and will stay at Bama.

I just noticed that. Odd that 247Sports would be breaking that news. I hope that turns out to be a credible source. That's great news to me. We need to have some level of consistency going into spring practice.

I guess no news is good news on McElwain?

I seriously doubt the HCIW deal, since I believe the NCAA said a HCIW couldn't recruit when the Head Coach couldn't recruit (effectively killing the title).

They didnt say they couldnt recruit they only limited their recruiting abilities to that of a head coach, fewer phone calls and visits. They can still recruit. however, I forgot all about that rule and it could throw that out of the window. I still wouldnt be surprised to see it at some point though.

Smart considering UF, leaning toward UA | TideSports.com

Smart was on the road Monday recruiting for Alabama. He visited defensive lineman Caleb Gulledge, a 2012 Alabama commitment, at Prattville High School. Gulledge said Smart didn't mention Florida, and the prospect didn't ask the coach about it.

"We were just talking about Bama," Gulledge said. "He acted like he's still stuck on Alabama."

Prattville coach Jamey Dubose talked with Smart about Muschamp's surprise hire at Florida, but the subject of Smart considering a move to join Muschamp's staff didn't come up.

"We didn't discuss Florida or any other things," Dubose said. "I felt like if it was something he wanted to talk about, he'd bring it up. He was going about his business doing his normal stuff. He was recruiting for Alabama."

I also saw where Muschamp was out recruiting and told a recruit he would be his own defensive coordinator. Take it for what its worth.

"Coach Muschamp called me this morning but I was sleeping so I just called him back," said Louchiez Purifoy, a four-star athlete from Pensacola (Fla.) Pine Forest who projects as a defensive back and has been committed to Florida since July. "He said he's still committed to me. He seemed like a good person but I honestly don't know too much about him. I haven't done any research yet. He did say that he will be his own defensive coordinator. I just need to get to know him. Right now I would still say that I am committed to Florida."

Those are good signs.

I think agents push these rumors so that their man can have a chance to refuse a job every year to keep his name out front on everyone's lips.

Okay... I read the entire thread and looked at Tidesports.com too.. I think CKS will stay at Bama. He has so many young guys he recruited and has coached up, there is unfinished business here at the Capstone - I figure he stays around for a year or two. Like many have said, the next job he takes is HC, probably at Georgia.

He was recruiting Crowell today as a Bama AC. Momma Crowell did say CKS mentioned CWM taking the UF job.
