Well, when the government spends nearly $70,000 each on a set of adjustable metal shelves that one could get at Home Depot for less than $2000 (35x more), spending 7x more for a tower is understandable ... or something.

Voyager 1 is alive: NASA spacecraft reawakens 15 billion miles away from EarthVoyager 1 is alive: NASA spacecraft reawakens 15 billion miles away from Earth
Voyager 1 has been venturing deep into the interstellar space. But recently, this aging spacecraft encountered a silent challenge.
After a brief silence, the distant spacecraft reached out to Earth again on October 24.
On October 16th, Voyager 1’s fault protection system kicked in, a safety measure designed to preserve the spacecraft’s limited power. This unexpected action caused a disruption in communication, leaving the mission team uncertain about its status.
Amazing! Two day turnaround on coms.
If they had equipped it with 5G, they could cut that time in half.Amazing! Two day turnaround on coms.

I'd be extremely surprised if any manned missions in 4 years.
As much as I respect what SpaceX has been able to do, the thought of humans colonizing Mars makes zero sense to me. Without a spinning core to create a magnetosphere, there's no chance to terraform a stable atmosphere, which means the most inhabitable place on planet earth will always be far more hospitable than anywhere on Mars.I'd be extremely surprised if any manned missions in 4 years.
As long as Matt Damon is still with us......it's do-able!As much as I respect what SpaceX has been able to do, the thought of humans colonizing Mars makes zero sense to me. There are many things that could happen to Earth to make it completely uninhabitable for humans. We either colonize the solar system or go extinct. But the Moon makes more sense as it has a far less significant gravity well. Actually, a large asteroid would make even more sense. As much as I respect what SpaceX has been able to do, the thought of humans colonizing Mars makes zero sense to me. I understand the point, but it's FAR more likely that something happens to wipe out everyone on Mars than wiping out life on earth. Unless / until we can leave the solar system colonizing another planet is the stuff of pipe dreams, imo. There are many things that could happen to Earth to make it completely uninhabitable for humans. It is about having as many colonies as possible. 2 is better than 1, 3 is better than 2, etc.I understand the point, but it's FAR more likely that something happens to wipe out everyone on Mars than wiping out life on earth.
