Spring Practice Thread/News/Predictions

Concerning the changes: I think CKD is pushing all the right buttons.

I feel like I'm slightly qualified to chime in about this: I've been a full-time minister for 32 years now. They say ministry and coaching have a lot of similarities. In my career I've followed two very long-time ministers in churches where I've served: one had been in the pulpit over 40 years and the other had been "the man" for over 50 years. At two other places, I followed 20 year stints.

So understanding how "change" must be implemented is a very important aspect of my career.

The #1 rule, in my experience, is when you follow a long-term, successful person you have to find the balance between recognizing and embracing the success of your predecessor but also understanding how you are different and simply being yourself.

I think CKD has done both of these about as well as possible in his short tenure at Bama.

This will make a huge difference in our defense this season. HUGE.

“I think the biggest thing is getting guys into position to make plays,” Lawson said. “We’re playing free, it’s not too complicated where you have to think so much so you can really dial into your key and play as fast as you can.”

So I realize it's a first practice but seeing Brockermeyer at 1st team Center over Brailsford was a bit shocking. Has Brockermeyer improved a ton and gotten way bigger already during the last 2 + months? And can Pritchett handle left tackle? Will be curious to see how the o-line plays out.

I think they decided to give our back-up center who is now in his 4th year to run with the 1's to start. It's going to be an open competition and if Brockermeyer is better he should start. None of the Washington transfers are assured of starting. They are joining a very talented roster compared to where they came from (Washington was talented but not to Bama's level).

I think Pritchett will get better and better as he gets more experience and reps. Kid has the physical make-up to be a really good one.

As much as Saban's "complicated" defense prepared the players for the NFL, I think it cost us a lot of times in their college careers while learning it. Granted, it didn't cost us a lot seeing that we won 6 NC's, but I think those of us who watched Saban's entire Alabama career can attest that the complexity of it was a double-edged sword at times.

The more I think about it and again, with zero information, I think Mack could very well be viewed as a quarterback who isn't ready to start, but he has the tools to be real, real good when he is ready. That alone is worth bringing the kid with you, especially seeing how chaotic and fluid rosters are now days.
Mack didnt look as polished as I had imagined. He has a long winding throw.
Lonergan is more crisp and quick

I agree...last year against UGA and UM our DB's looked lost at times in their coverage responsibilities....on UGA's last drive near our goal line Caleb Downs has his hands up in the air -- "What do I do..." Not sure how all this will work out but simplicity is sometimes a better call with superior but young athletes.

I wanted to add that Penix's recent comments on Mack have influenced my opinion as well..

“His confidence is out of the roof, man. He’s going to be an amazing player at Alabama. That’s definitely going to be a household name there pretty soon, and he has so much talent at a young age that I saw as soon as he came in and just the way he was able to pick up the offense, and pick up on just seeing the defense, and reacting to the plays, it was amazing to see. So, I know his ceiling is very high.”

It sounds like the kid has a fast CPU to go with his physical talents.

It's encouraging because it necessary to run the CKD Offense.

I feel like Jalen and Ty both need to make improvements in that area to beat Mack.

I'm overall happy with our QB room because every guy is really talented and they all have upside's that haven't been realized fully because of terrible to mediocre coaching. So we know Potential is still there for all of them.

They will now get Top Notch 1 on 1 QB coaching and whoever emerges as QB1 will be pretty dang good.
I hope so. QB needs to be the top priority.

Guys I am getting absolutely giddy with all these interviews we get to watch and the direction the program is heading! Really feel if the offense gels, we could make a run. Really trying to contain myself, lol.
