Stadium crowd yesterday/student seating

I thought the stadium was fuller than I expected, and certainly noticed the difference in the southeast upper deck. It was full by game time, I guess due to new requirement that freshmen sit there. Student section was certainly different with no block seating. Still, many had left by early 3rd quarter. I liked the changes overall. Was this a 1-time thing on block seating or will it be the same next week?

It sure looked like a lot of empty seats in the southwest part of the south end zone. I think it was early in the 3rd quarter when the cameras showed that area.

Reading Gatorsports and TigerRant I see they are complaining about their crowds (including students) as well. Of course the rain in BR gives them more reason for crowd behavior. Noticed that UGA crowd seemed pretty down as well. Lots of people theorizing about changes in fan behavior everywhere.

That corner is designated for athletes or at least was a few years ago when I was a student. That was not an area where any student sits. More for current players and recruits.

Other threads include talk solely on Bama's attendance problems. However, it is not happening at just Alabama. This is happening everywhere.

It was the students fault we looked so bad last night.
I would have liked to have one of those empty seats. I don't care if its thundering, lightning, raining, snowing, hailing with fire and brimstone or what. That way I could have seen the Tide live.

I don care if the Tide wins by 50 or 1, just so they win. A win is a win is a win! I did get a little CONCERNED in the 4th quarter last night until their QB fumbled. If he had taken them down the field again for a TD, they would be behind by 7 and that tooooooo close for comfort.

My whole disappointment last night was wanting to see the back-ups get significant playing time like #21, #23, #5, et al.

Yeah, don't know what was up with that corner. I thought maybe it was for recruits and families, but it looked it does when the band goes on the field. Packed right up to the edge and then rows of empty seats...

To me that empty section was too conspicuous to just be from students not showing up. It was an entire section. There's more to this than students didn't show up or weather was bad

The last time I sat up the South Upper Deck there were a number of former players up there. Students aren't the only ones who leave early or stay home during games.

Let's throw out that the west upper deck was maybe HALF FULL. The chair back seats in the lower bowl was maybe 2/3 full. Very disappointed. It's been said that for the size BDS isn't that overbearing on the opposing teams. Guess the team can't count on help from a large chunk of the ticket holding fan base to show up.

I have been very vocal about the students not showing or leaving so I'm throwing stones at my own now. Still not happy about the student section clearing out at the half.

The empty section in the southwest part of the stadium was part of the student section. The student section filled from the southeast sideline ( where the band is located) through the end zone. There were probably only 500 empty seats in the section at kickoff.

Tousands of tickets were for sale outside around campus and around the stadium prior to the game. I had four tickets that I tried to sell for friends that I didn't even get asked about the ticket location or price. Anyone who wanted a ticket could have have gotten a great seat for virtually no cost.

Just a personal comment but it is understandable when ticket holders are not willing to drive several hours in rain to attend a game where the weather is questionable and then drive home late at night. However; nearly all the students live in Tuscaloosa and were aware that the weather was good several hours prior to the game. I still remember going to the 1967 UA/AU game in Birmingham when I was a student and sitting in the rain, wind, and cold for two hours prior to kickoff.

It was a fairly good crowd once everyone filed in. Actually, there were more folks there than I thought would be as campus was not overly crowded. The empty spaces in the student section were reflective of the remainder of the stadium. If you weren't a season ticket holder, it was a great night to pick up tickets for cheap (as an earlier posted noted). I had friends that couldn't find anyone to give their extra tickets to.

As to crowd noise, last night wasn't the best, by far, but there were moments when it picked up. Keep in mind, not to offer excuses, the Bama fanbase is, for the most part, a football savvy group. It knows its role, it knows when to be loud, it knows when the team can use a vocal boost or to make life difficult for an opponent. Last night's game never had any electricty to it, never a sense that the outcome was in any danger, no urgency from the team or crowd. It happens from time to time. No doubt things will be different Saturday night for the rebs, err, black bears, or whatever you want to call 'em.
