One of the things Saban talked about in this article, that I would like to emphasize, is how the STAR should be your best player for that particular position rather than just inserting your 3rd best corner as the STAR.

In today's game, the STAR is it's own position, and the STAR is a full-time starter -- it's not just a guy who comes in on 3rd-and-7+ (the article also alluded to this when it discussed how to go about stopping the run while having 5 defensive backs on the field at all times). Therefore, you've gotta make sure your STAR is the best guy for that position rather than just inserting your 3rd best corner and/or a guy who's "too big" to be a safety but "too small" to be a linebacker and hoping things work out.
