Starters?

38 and DT are in a better position to answer this question, but I'll take a wild guess...

Either Woodward or Seth Johnson will get the call on the mound. Woodward battled the flu in his last outing, earning the win over Belmont last Tuesday. Johnson's scheduled start against BSC was rained out and he has not pitched since combining with DeWayne Marlowe in shutting out the mighty Delta Devils of MVSU. I don't know how Woodward is feeling, but if there are any lingering effects from his illness, I would be inclined to let him rest, that way he would be available for the weekend and 100% against UGA. With SEC play upon us, we are going to need those experienced arms. On the other hand, midweek wins are also more important than most people might realize. You never want to sell yourself short, so it's better to be safe than sorry and throw a reliable pitcher. Johnson can throw some heat, but he lacks experience. Woodward on the other hand, has been lights-out as a midweek starter in his career at Bama. It will be an interesting call, but I am confident that either of the two will be able to get the job done nonetheless.

As far as defensive starters go, your guess is as good as mine when it comes to the situation in CF. Avalos has football practice, but that hasn't stopped Coach Wells from inserting him in the lineup, even if he ends up replacing Travis early in the game. Grant Redding has been playing well, and deserves to hold on to his starting job in left, but Van Winkle started to hit a little bit coming off the bench against UMass. If Van Winkle is back starting, I would assume that Hecklinski would move from DH to left and replace Redding. We haven't seen much of Bobby Burns lately, and Coach Wells might take the La. Tech game to give Charlie Lyons a day off and possibly give Burns a chance to at least partially redeem himself. The infield should remain the same, unless perhaps Evan Bush, who has been struggling at the plate, gets a day off and Trey Moody gets the chance to play.

La. Tech is off too a slow start at 5-11, but they are still a team we cannot afford to overlook. Their starting pitcher for tomorrow's game beat us in 2001 in Ruston, racking up eight K's in the win.

Garner is out of the doghouse now so my guess is he will be back in CF with Redding in LF and Heck DH. The rest will probably stay the same.

With SEC play starting this weekend, Johnson will probably get the call. He needs some innings after missing last week. Woodward feels better and can go tonight if he gets the call. However, he may be needed as a long reliever as SEC play approaches.

La Tech isn't as bad as their record. They lost a couple of very close games to Rice last weekend. This year, midweek games are must win games and our midweek schedule is very tough from here on out.
