Stats/Storylines the Have Gotten Lost in the Coverage from Last Night

There were a lot of things that happened last night which were "lost" in the major storylines of the game. Thought I would share some Ive noticed in my reading about the game. Some of these were mentioned even in the broadcast here and there. I know you all probably have MANY more than me. Here are just a few and as I think about the game Ill try to add more.

1) Derrick Henry became Alabama's career rushing leader with 3,571 yards. He also became only the 5th Heisman trophy RB to also win a NC.
2) We all were hard on Coker but statically he had a great game- 16-25 335 yards and 2 TDs with a QBR of 77.7 (ESPN). His QBR was 7 points better than Watson's. In the playoffs Coker was 41/55 621 yards 4 TDs 0 INTs.
3) OJ Howard had nearly as many receiving yards in this game (208) as he did in the nine conference games (SEC Champ included) we played this year. Also, Dabo wore #88 while at Bama and his achilles heel in this game was the inability to cover #88 (Jay Barker mentioned this).
4) Before 2013 Bama had 0 3,000 yard passers. After last night, we've had three in a row with McCarron, Sims, and now Coker.
5) Every recruiting class that Saban has signed has won a NC.
6) Bama finished wth wins over 6 top 25 teams and 9 wins over top 30 teams.
7) The last second TD by Clemson caused an estimated $10 million shift in Vegas.
8) TV rating was a 15.8 which is down 15% from last year but WatchESPN saw its biggest night of streaming for a non-World Cup game.
9) The SEC will conclude the 15-16 post season of 9-2. 7 of the wins were by 21 or more. The SEC has had 7 three times. No other league has ever had more than 6. (not so much about last night but interesting nonetheless).
10) Clemson had won 51 straight when entering the 4Q. Bama outscored them 24-16 in the 4Q.

Saban has won championships in all four National Championship venues while at Bama. (Pasadena vs Texas, New Orleans vs LSU, Miami vs Notre Dame, and now Glendale vs Clemson)

With the win last night, we have now been ranked #1 at some point in the season every single year starting in 2008. That is 8 years in a row and I'm sure is unprecedented.

#8 ought to speak VOLUMES about how much the viewing public is tired of the commentators. I wonder what would happen if CBS were to link the video with the respective team's broadcast teams.

The one about the betting and the flip-flop of the point spread at the 12 second mark got me. There have been a ton of games this season where something similar has happened. Points that meant nothing according to Coach Saban meant a ton for people betting on this game. Some games have ended with a team running out the clock on the goal line when a score would have changed the winning bets and some games have been like this where a meaningless score at the end changed the winning bets.

I had also noted the 4th quarter scoring in a post last night. Bama-24 Cemson-16 Some folks felt that this would be the total points scored for the entire game.

In his last game, OJ Howard's 208 yards receiving places him at #5 all-time at Alabama for receiving yards in a single game.

Don't have any link or way to substantiate this but on JOX this morning they said Coach Saban's and Coach Bryant's 100th wins at Bama both came against Clemson.

Yes, as stated in the OP, WatchESPN had is biggest night for a non-World Cup championship game. This is telling given the latter is a worldwide event. I stream all of the games I watch on my Roku either with Sling TV or WatchESPN. Sling TV cuts out all of the commercials with a graphic which "ESPN Commercial Break". This is one of my favorite aspects of it.

I found my enjoyment of the game went up enormously once I turned off the volume.
ESPN should consider either offering different audio tracks (from each school's Sports Broadcasting Networks) or just silence or maybe just crowd noise. Their commentators really detracted form the broadcast. Silence or crowd noise would be cheaper and better.

Agreed. I used the Hometown Radio feature which was great having Eli synced up with the game. Only got the local radio commercials, but no ads on the TV itself, didn't even go to the "ESPN Commercial Break" graphic. I liked it. Made the game seem to go faster.

I personally liked the multiple angles (regular view, ball view, coach view, and live stats). The missus complained about it but whatever...she was a disinterested (Gator) fan and fell asleep on the couch for much of the game (we had a sleeping toddler in the next room, so I couldn't get too excited).

Definitely. Plus the streaming on the ESPN app. I read that this was the most streamed sporting event in history other than the world cup. I don't think streaming numbers are included when rating numbers are calculated..

What I want to know is the referee's name who assigned himself as Watson's personal valet last night. It seemed every time Watson got knocked down that ref was running over there to help him up. I don't think I have ever seen that before. I know it is minor and I can understand once but I never saw him helping Jake up. Maybe he did; I don't know.

I watched it on Sling. Apart from the commercial break music track being way louder than the game broadcast volume it is highly preferable...I just hit mute anytime they went to commercial so I didn't have to hear that annoying music track.
