Game Thread: Sugar Bowl (ND vs UGA) (ESPN | Jan 2 at 3pm CST)

A law enforcement spokesman just said they werent placing IEDs around............who knows what to believe

What I'm hearing down hearing is they found weapons and a possible home-made IED in the truck. He crashed the truck into a crane a couple of blocks down the street, then came out shooting before police killed him. I've heard they found a couple of possible home-made IED's, (pipebomb etc), on Bourbon St. but that hasn't been confirmed. I have also heard it has been determined he was working for Isis. Things appear to be well under control now.

He was president in his own mind for a few minutes. I am too young to have seen it but I know history because it fascinates me.

he got one word wrong and never lived it down.

He intended to say “administratively” not constitutionally. He was under a ton of duress and made an honest mistake, but boy was at a whopper.

Terrible for those killed and injured. So sad these things continue to happen!

The game is now scheduled for 4:00-7:00 today. Heads up for those who record and watch on a delay: ESPN is only giving 3 hours for the time slot. ESPN has Sports Center afterward, but it is unlikely this game is over by 7:00 in terms of the broadcast itself.

But the game may be "over" way before the broadcast is over. I think ND's only chance is hoping UGA's new QB is blinded by the bright lights.

And the Gator Bowl is on ESPN tonight as well. So they will want this thing over as quickly as possible

There is a little more noise this morning from those that want this game cancelled. I just don't understand cancelling it. If playing in New Orleans is a little too dicy right now, why not just move the game somewhere else?

Do you honestly think a stadium could host a major event like this on such short notice? Even if they went to Houston (an NFL stadium set for a game next week), you’d have to arrange for stadium workers, police, hotels, etc.

Ok, well what's the alternative? If this game is cancelled, then the Orange Bowl is effectively cancelled. Could they not move it somewhere and just play the game in an empty stadium just for the sake of getting it played?

It is not being canceled. Why must people live in fear?
Exactly. I just don't understand this fear culture now. Bad things have been happening since the beginning of time, but in the last few years, it seems like every little thing sends everybody into a panic. Just like when the dockworkers almost went on strike a few months ago. Panic set in and grocery stores were cleaned out in no time. Over a potential strike. Just unreal

I’m not saying cancel the game, just that moving it on such short notice is logistically impossible. I honestly don’t know if your suggestion would be possible.

The answer is the internet/social media and what they have both morphed into

It’s almost like people don’t know that enough things have happened in the world that contingency planning is part of these events.

Given TV contracts, etc, nothing will be cancelled short of a lethal pandemic or a players strike. Nut driving through Bourbon Street won’t even register beyond “hey, let’s make sure there’s not another behind him - and beef up security.”
