I don't know if it's Biden's fault regarding supply chain failures. I know that he did say that previous food shortages were definitely the fault of Trump and his lack of leadership. I would have hoped since he got to office, he would have fixed that issue of "thousands of gallons of milk being poured on the ground."

It's a very complex problem, but it would have caught whomever was in office off-guard...
I agree. We know the way it works is, no matter what the problem, whomever is in office has to carry the burden or blame. Especially if they blamed the previous administration.

Hmmm...I'm still trying to figure out how Obama and Biden were to blame for this.

“We have one of the lowest mortality rates anywhere,” the president said before pivoting to an attack on Barack Obama and Joe Biden, the presumptive 2020 Democratic nominee.

“Biden and Obama stopped their testing,” Trump said. “They just stopped it. You probably know that. I’m sure you don’t want to report it. But they stopped testing. Right in the middle, they just went, ‘No more testing.’”

It’s not entirely clear what Obama-era testing program Trump was referring to.

If the supply chain snafu can ruin your Christmas, then maybe you need to read up on what Christmas is about, anyway.
I'm just old enough to predate the big gift Christmas. On Xmas morn, we each got a bag full of candy, citrus fruits, nuts, etc. and we were wild with excitement. When I was ten, I got a bike (too big for me). My dad had just had a monster heart attack and I understood that I got it because he wasn't expected to live. As it happened, he made it ten more years (until Coach Bryant came home, his last words to my mom). My wife and I haven't exchanged gifts in many years. We buy a few things for the grandchildren...

We've transitioned to this both as a couple and with my parents. If we want something, we just buy it, so purchasing gifts for one another is really more of a pain than it's worth.

We'll continue to buy the kids stuff as they're still starting off in life and while they don't need anything, there are lots of neat / fun things we can buy for them. And like most people, I've always enjoyed giving fun things to people more than I've enjoyed receiving them.

But circling back to Christmas, as a Christian I want to focus on what the holiday is about - not about 'stuff'.

Isn't a big part of the supply chain problem centered around Asian imports? East coast ports dont seem to be having the same problems.
east coast ports are having some issues with scheduling/trucker and equipment shortages, but nowhere near what we are seeing on the west coast.

Thieves are targeting containers holding electronics and household goods as ports in the US struggle to clear backlogs of cargo, leading to delays in the supply chain.

"The more that the supply chain in general is backed up, the more cargo you're going to have sitting. And that creates a bigger opportunity for thefts," Scott Cornell, Travelers crime and theft specialist, told CBS MoneyWatch. /QUOTE]

I have a question for those who would know, last week I was watching the national evening news about the port situation and all the cargo sitting on boats for 10 days. In the report, it was said that one of the problems is the port doesn't have "shifts" working around the clock. The dock sits with zero activity for hours upon hours at a time with no one doing anything.

Does anyone know why this would be the case?

I'm trying to remember if there was ever a single problem that happened under Trump that he didn't blame on something or somebody else. I can't think of any.
He said when he got elected he would never own up to his mistakes, he’d blame someone else. And his supporters are fine with that- I feel sorry for their children.

And I’m sure that has nothing to do with the fact that the vast majority of everything we import comes from….

not sure, but in la/long beach, they just went to 24/7 scheduling.

ports are odd places vis a vis regulation, etc.

I wish we could transition to that; my wife had a childhood that most on here could not even imagine, and I just can’t bring myself to that point yet. I’m hoping we will see that day sometime in the near future but for now, I’ll keep getting her things she likes but wont buy for herself. It’s not that we couldn’t afford them, she’s just very frugal.

Longshoreman are unionized. I’m sure second and third shifts would require pay differentials and willing workers, and the agencies overseeing them would require more workers as well, at a time when workers are hard to find.
