We often talk about the best players, but most great superstars have a wingman who is willing to play second fiddle. Yet, without these people a lot of "stars" might not shine as brightly.

Obviously, I'd like to hear your opinion of great Bama football players who were the supporting cast of even bigger stars they played with. But feel free to name players not necessarily Bama football players.

South Alabama
Richard Mulaney pretty much forced teams to avoid doubling Ridley.

But I guess the best dynamic duo maybe Swann and Stallworth IMO.

Alabama‘s early 70s had several examples In the wishbone. Stop Johnny Musso and Terry Davis is gone. Stop Wilbur Jackson and Gary Rutledge is gone. Of course you could add the fullbacks who added hundreds of yards in the middle, thus the three headed monster.

Swann was overrated. I mean, he was a good receiver, but he was one of those guys who got extra credit for the catches he made look hard, the Sugar Ray Leonard of the 70s Steelers.

I'll show myself out.

I was thinking of that one myself. Morrall turned out to be the ultimate second fiddle coming in and leading the Colts and Dolphins to Super Bowls after Unitas and Griese got hurt.
It is sad beyond words that Earl Morrall's legacy is, "He didn't see Jimmy Orr wide open."

He led the unbeaten Dolphins.
He bailed out the Super Bowl V Colts.
He was the QB coach at Miami that developed Jim Kelly, Bernie Kosar, and Vinny T. (We'll forgive him for Mark Richt).
He played 21 years in the NFL.

And the first thing people think is, "He missed Jimmy Orr and threw a pick."
