Sylvester Croom has resigned

So, in the SEC West, you will now have:

the traditional, smash-mouth football style of Nick Saban, and...

- the Riverboat Gambler and his "spread" offense
- Les Miles
- Bobby Petrino
- Houston Nutt

and now, maybe, Chris Peterson?

This is a wild bunch to have to plan for defensively each season...but I'll take our chances year-end, year-out!

No chance. Petersen will have a lot better opportunities, and is more of a West Coast guy.

I would love to have Croom come coach our RB's, lol. No, I think Croom has shown how honorable he is by stepping down, and not being forced. This saves Miss. St. the wrath of the media.

Maybe Sly will give up Head Coaching and come join Team Saban...

Croom = Class
I have no desire to see Croom on any future Alabama staff. Croom has shown very little class towards the University in the past 5 years. And, I think this resignation was very much "forced". MSU may or may not have a good plan in place for a new coach, but I don't think Croom resigned out of the kindness of his heart.

Did you see the footage of Sylvester Croom on the field just taking in the atmosphere (and shaking hands of Alabama fans) hours before this year's game? It was the look of a man who would give anything to coach 1 game as an Alabama head coach--for his father and his coach--yet knew he would not only get that chance, but also may be on the sidelines for the last time in his life.

He really thought he was going to get the job and was completely flummoxed by Mal Moore's decision to hand the reigns over to a vastly inexperienced man whose only qualification appeared to be his birthright. Does anyone really want to argue the decision, now? Don't use Croom's tenure as MSU to debate the issue--he's gotten a lot out of a squad of offensively-challenged athletes and let's not forget the mess of a program he inherited.

Moreover, I would argue that had Croom come to Alabama and been given the financial freedom to hire good assistants while he was left to mentoring and augmenting the attitudes of his players, Alabama would have had much better years than Shula produced.

...

Sylvester Croom loves the University of Alabama. We should welcome him back in whatever way possible.

I expected Croom to resign. No love lost and no we don't need him at Bama. Just another coach who was not what he pretended to be. Put him in the same category as Fulmer, Richt, and Les Miles.

I hope he finds another job but now at BAMA. Wonder if Jeff Bower of USM fame would take the job

i will not debate you on this, I just wish you were better informed before making those comments.

From a pressure standpoint, Boise St. is a better job. But, if Peterson ever wants to contend for a National Championship he is going to have to come to the SEC or another BCS Conference. Undefeated at Boise St. means nothing.

Mississippi St. has more advantages as well. The state of Mississippi offers far more talent to recruit and if Sly can recruit them, Peterson should be able to keep more of the in-state talent from leaving.

I don't think Peterson will leave Boise for Starkville, but any BCS opening is head and shoulders a better job than Boise St.

I'm pretty surprised at the move. He started behind the 8 ball. But after 5 years, he's shown little to no improvement on the field. However, he has made significant gains on the recruiting trail. And that's where MSU will miss him most.

Regarding all the comments about Sly not having class..the guy was turned down for his dream job, and he wasn't happy about it. It is what it is. The guy we chose in his stead didn't fair all that well over the (relative) long haul either. My guess is that Sly heads back to the NFL. As a Bama alum, I wish him all the best.
