I doubt they let you watch a real practice, probably some generic drills and maybe a little shells or something.
My problem with that scenario is that players were never FORCED to remain amateurs. They could have done many other things. They CHOSE to swap their athletic skills for tuition, books, room, board, health care, training, exposure, etc., etc., etc. The system now is nothing like it was created to be. Yes, I understand that times change, but change is certainly not always for the better. Many people (plaintiffs) ask for courts to intrude, but the courts often used to laugh them out of the place. Now, it is like they allow any and all ludicrous suits to pass through. Yes, I have several friends who are attorneys, and they all love to say that there are no accidents and that the courts do throw out frivolous and ludicrous lawsuits, but I've now seen so many that it is considered commonplace. Anyway, as I said before, to each his own. I'm just not like so many folks who want to act like the NCAA was solely responsible. I feel quite certain that the NCAA acted as they were instructed to act by their member institutions. I have been surprised that more universities haven't gotten out of the collegiate athletics game, but they are still trying to hold on to the traditions to see if they can make it work. We shall see if it does. I'm hoping some common sense can be found and used, but once the courts start making rulings, common sense is usually lost forever.Greed for sure, and the refusal to cast off an outdated and untenable operating structure.
As far as the court system in this scenario, the plaintiffs asked them to intrude, which is how the system works.
The NCAA held all the cards and totally miscalculated.
I don't think there was or is anything ludicrous about adults demanding a cut of billions of dollars in revenue generated by their work.My problem with that scenario is that players were never FORCED to remain amateurs. Or they're just gonna dumb down whatever they're doing that day, so it seems kind of a silly idea to me. We'd probably see less than we do at A Day, and I certainly wouldn't pay to see A Day.I doubt they let you watch a real practice, probably some generic drills and maybe a little shells or something.
Honestly, and I know this is confusing based on some of my thoughts, but I've never had a problem with people paying players. I find it baffling that anyone is willing to give players money, but I don't have a problem with it. I just wish the NFL would have created a minor league for guys who weren't ready for the league but who were good enough to possibly make a living out of being a professional. I would rather watch two and three star guys who are students representing my university than the monster they have created now. The cat is already out of the bag, and it isn't going back in, but I miss real college football.I don't think there was or is anything ludicrous about adults demanding a cut of billions of dollars in revenue generated by their work.
I agree that back in the day when there was little to no money in college sports (or even pro sports for that matter) that getting a free education with room and board was a great deal. Not so much when schools are making tens of millions, coaches are getting paid millions, and the players are the product generating the revenue.
At this point I'm not even sure that it makes sense to require the players to even be students anymore if the sport they play generates enough revenue.
I'm not exactly thrilled with college sports becoming professional sports, but my feelings about it don't govern the rights of the players to reap the rewards of their efforts. The reality is that the "student-athlete" thing has been a farce for decades at the highest levels of college competition.
I think it's absurd for a QB to make $50million a year too...but I'm not going to hold it against them for getting paid that much...and if the math works, the math works.
There's a reason why I'll never get paid millions to do what I do, because I don't generate enough revenue for my company.
IF I ever got to the point that I was generating millions in revenue for my company, I'd expect my pay to increase accordingly.
Understood.Honestly, and I know this is confusing based on some of my thoughts, but I've never had a problem with people paying players. Tell me about it! I have a daughter at South right now.Understood.
What is also crazy is the cost of tuition.
When I went to college in the 80s my tuition was like $5 grand a year. Same school is now $30 grand.
Exactly. They will sell the idea of paying to see practices like it's an all access pass. But, what they will show will be precious little. No program wants the public seeing a whole lot of anythingI doubt they let you watch a real practice, probably some generic drills and maybe a little shells or something.
At this point, I kinda just hope it all burns straight to the ground. Everyone wants to be a professional player, fine, quit pretending you are attending a school, sign a contract, and be an employee. I really don’t care if you fail to make the cut and never got an education and now work at the local car wash. End all collegiate athletics and just go to club teams. I’m tired of it.One day the cash cow will fully bleed out and there's a growing part of me that can't wait for it to happen.
Yeah it’s all Pro Ball now and I don’t feel anything anymore. At this point, I kinda just hope it all burns straight to the ground. Watching the last few years has completely eroded my interest in the game. After so many years of being a huge fan I find myself closing out football promos on Facebook and YouTube. Over the last few years we have seen players we root for end up in Texas and elsewhere. If it doesn't matter to the players and vastly over paid coaches why should it matter to me! They have killed the golden goose.Yeah it’s all Pro Ball now and I don’t feel anything anymore.
The G5 is basically Single A, The Power 5 is AA, and The Top 25 teams are AAA.
It’s all just the Minor League farm system for the NFL.
The only difference is the players can just up and quit and then go to any other team they want via the Portal.
It would actually be better for the schools to sign them to Contracts so they can’t just leave because they didn’t get the latest Lambo with all the features they wanted.
I feel nothing for these dudes.
