"There is more fraud committed in the name of God than any other fraud in the world," he said.

"We just found out that there's now more clerical fraud, ecclesiastical fraud than there is money given for missions. And now, this year, it's in the neighborhood of $55 billion for fraud, and about $49 billion for missions," he explained.

"They are not feeding the hungry or clothing the naked or housing the homeless, they are building themselves mansions and multiple jet planes," he said of televangelists who commit fraud.

I guess this is why I've become so skeptical of giving to churches.

It continues to amaze me how people can't see through this mess from the get go. It's obvious. I mean really, they're not even in sheep's clothing and they're walking through the front door. Yet Christians or should I put "Christians" are rolling out the red carpet for them.

Haha. The guy had a TV show called "Financial Freedom"
Oh no!! They after Benny Hinn too? :eek2:

Crucify the bloodsucking bastages!:mad2:

Well I don't think it's fair to put Christians in quotes (if I correctly take the meaning to be that they are faux or not really Christian in some way). Many of the people do give money do so earnestly. I think they are open to ridicule about naivety but if they are earnest in their giving and it is misused I don't think that reflects poorly on their Christianity.

Also, I'm a mainline Christian, raised Christian, attend Christian university and even work at a Christian org and I don't even know who half of these guys getting busted are. I've never heard of many of them. Where are people finding their material and giving? I know a LOT of evangelists and pastors with tv shows or podcasts or non-profits but it always ends up being some obscure guy who gets busted and is still somehow living a millionaires life despite never being in the mainstream Christian sphere.

It truly must attract a certain type of person.

Most of you here know I'm a pastor. I actively teach my people to avoid televangelists completely. Like BB, I honestly can't understand how people can't see through all this.

I'll add:

"There is no accountability for the ministers. They get by with anything they want to do because prosecutors and law enforcement agencies in this country do not want to go after religious figures," Anthony said.

This is true, but only for religious figures wealthy enough to have a lawyer on call or pastors within large organizations. Pastors of small, unassociated churches face IRS scrutiny routinely. It's like being Cleveland State when the NCAA is mad at Kentucky.

me too, but con men and women are very skilled at manipulating folks. hell, we've got one who made it to the whitehouse and has lawyered up with another, and put a couple of them on his cabinet.

If you ever want to be truly disgusted start a google news alert with the subject "Pastor Arrested" you will be shocked at how often it updates and how much you appreciate the financial crimes in comparison to the other stuff that is going on

Everyone isn't at the same point on the sanctification road, I get that. Many times I take two steps forward only to run back twenty yards. I get that. But good lord at some point an element of discernment has to sprout.

No, not even close. There is more fraud committed in government than any other fraud in the world. That would include banking fraud done at the behest of and with the blessing of government.

I agree that people need discernment. We lack that as a nation, I think. Naive and earnest people will also come anew with each age- so there will always be plenty of marks for people such as this.

How did this picture of me get on the interwebs? [emoji23][emoji23]

Just kidding. Seriously, televangelists are frauds. I saw Benny Hinn ask for 10,000 $700 donations to pay for a new leer jet for "missions." I'm sure get got it quickly too.

You're being too nice, BB. At a point, a person crosses the line between being sincere and naive, vs. being stupid and willfully blind.

Here's a scary thought: the people who give to these guys have the vote.

And we wonder why neither our religious leaders nor our politicians can be trusted with the money entrusted to them....
