Tennessee preview: Bama wonders whether it will have enough fireworks to top Vols
by Jess Nicholas, TideFans.com Editor-In-Chief

Even prior to Bryce Young’s shoulder injury against Arkansas, a lot of fans and analysts had this game circled as a potential problem spot for Alabama in 2022.

Coming off consecutive physical games against the Razorbacks and then Texas A&M, going to Knoxville to face a Tennessee team that has not beaten Alabama since Nick Saban was hired looked like the very definition of a trap game. Add in Young’s unfortunate shoulder injury, then throw on the game tape from Texas A&M of backup QB Jalen Milroe struggling to trigger the football, and suddenly this game doesn’t just look like a potential upset, but almost an assured defeat.

When was the last game Jess picked us to lose? I definitely recall the 2015 UGA game Between the Hedges, but has there been any since??

Nice job as always Jess. We're either going to beat the crap out of them or it's a toss up in a squeaker. I look for some NOTs in this game for the Tide. After last week, I think the guys are chomping at the bit to quiet the puke orange crowd.

Yea, playing with a chip on the shoulder never helped guys like Marino or that Brady kid.….
Milroe already feels too much pressure, and he didn't handle it well. You want to pile on even more?

He will only progress when he is capable of compartmentalizing his emotions. Play one play at a time. Forget the last, no thought of the next, only living in the now.

I think Bryce is gonna play
From what I have read, yes, he will play. They just don't know (or at least that is what Saban wants the media and fans to know) how sore his arm will be once on the field throwing. I hope he gets enough rehab and pain meds/shot to mask the pain for 4 hours, and can be very effective. I get really nervous thinking about Milroe playing in this game. Saban has said Bryce can't make the injury worse, but it is just a pain tolerance thing. The only other regular season game that will make me nervous is at Ole Miss. That could determine the West.

Jess, nice read and you know me; I especially like how you ended things at least mentioning O vs. D and D vs. O! I am cautiously hopeful that Bryce will play and frankly even if he doesn't throw the ball a lot, even 10 yard passes against this UT secondary and allowing our receivers (who have questionable hands at times) to use what they do have...their LEGS could be great! As a group, they are fast and frankly with a 3-3-5 they'll be stuck in zone coverage which means somebody's going to be open...even if it's Jahmyr out of the backfield! and if not in zone, they'll be doubling up two guys on the outside meaning Jahmryr will begin his routes in the backfield and be against a LB. I'll take that matchup all day. We will need at least a few passes downfield, which is the concern, but I'm not sure which Milroe will show up if he goes in...the one who managed a great game plan against Arkansas or the one who looked like a deer in headlights against A&M. With all of that said, I've got to hope that this week, if nothing else has given him time to relax.

What is it that you’ve seen in Milroe that has you confident he will lead us to victory on the road? Serious question.
