That racist OU frat

Story broke yesterday, really gaining some momentum by the national drive-by now. I'm not going to link the video, but it's not hard to find right now.

I Find it really odd, while reading commentators opinions on the matter from different areas of the country, people seem to lump these idiot spoiled rich frat brats together with average Oklahoma citizens by calling the whole state racist. It's disgusting and annoying that these idiots can be considered representatives of this state, and it's equally as irritating that people just assume the entire state is racist, isn't that the same type of ignorance that helped incubate the initial Racism?

It's like we are all running around in circles babbling incoherently and slinging crap on each other instead of actively trying to engage or solve the issue.

I seem to recall Alabama Greek system having some racial problems exposed by the media not to long ago. And from personal experience, Okie State SAE's were big time Aholes as well. I would be lying if I said I never had an altercation with those clowns a time or two.

i was going to say the same thing. looks and sounds just like some of the frat guys from my time at bama.

i will eta, that i knew some really good people that were in the greek system as well (even some saes)

sae had some serious drug issues in my time, iirc, there was a lot of serious volume coming thru there.

there were a few instances i remember from my time there, a cross being burned on the lawn of a black sga president candidate, the black homecoming queen (in 88 i think) being loudly booed at the homecoming game, and the "who rides the bus" party that graced us with quite a few black face pictures (that was ka i think)

quite a few david duke bumper stickers on cars at some of the frat houses.

Yeah, they got kicked off campus for a year because of a coke distribution ring being run out of the house . . . among other things.

The homecoming queen was in 1986, I think. The KAs also waved a confederate flag in the BD student section as the black homecoming queen was crowned...by George Wallace. IIRC, the game was televised (uncommon for HC back then), so the stupidity went national in short order.

That was followed up by several years of the SGA trying to tweak the homecoming court election rules to prevent another black from being elected queen.

These issues aren't because someone is in a GREEK organization. These ignorant jerks are created by parents who fail to teach their children that being a racist is a really bad thing. The Greek system isn't failing these kids, their PARENTS ARE. When you are raised by parents who use racist words and instill racist thoughts into the minds of their children, the cycle is NEVER broken.

To those who have misused their free speech in such a reprehensible way, I have a message for you. You are disgraceful. You have violated all that we stand for. I believe President Boren made a good statement and took a good action. Good on him.
If there is ever again an SAE chapter at OU, I would be that one condition is that they always have minority members.


I guess you can never overestimate the ability of drunk young men in groups to make fools of themselves.

Don't forget that Joe Mixon is being paid by the University of Oklahoma to play football even though he punched a woman in the face. OU also accepted a kid that was kicked out of another school for assaulting a woman and petitioned the NCAA to make him immediately eligible.

Good for OU though. They certainly have made their priorities made known.

i agree for the most part and think that this instance over shadows a lot of good that is done by greek organizations; and there will be the inevitable "blame it on the greeks" (because, face it, they are going to inherit the earth).

but in this instance, this particular greek organization seems to be okaying/normalizing this behavior and i saw a lot of the same types of behavior by some of the fraternities when i was at bama. this kid wasn't doing this alone, [seemingly] the entire bus was having a good ole time joining in. and im willing to wager a few bucks that this wasn't the first time this little ditty was sung together by these d-bags and d-baguettes and it has probably been passed down pledge class to pledge class for many years. so its not the greek system that is causing this, but there seem to be lots of kids predisposed to this that end up together in some of the greek organizations re-inforcing each other's putrid behavior. im hoping the punishment for this changes a couple of minds, but i have a feeling it wont and that for a large number of these kids, this will be brushed under the rug as "boys being boys and just having a bit of fun"

the sad part is, if sae at oklahoma is anything like sae at alabama, these kids are going to be business and political (and probably church ) leaders in the future.
