I wish Richardson all the best and I feel really bad about his family situation but I strongly disagree with him being ranked the # 3 prospect.

The article does not say a whole lot about football. Doug Segrest needs to do a little better research. There is no such place as Odenville High School. I am pretty sure it has always been called St. Clair County HS.

Birmingham News Super Seniors: Springville's Jeremy Richardson battles through off-field heartaches - al.com
Jeremy Richardson will be surrounded by hundreds of fans. A big man on campus, he'll usually be the best player on the football field. Yet sometimes he feels all alone.

At 17, Richardson does not have a parent involved in his life and, at times, has been without a place to call home, sleeping at the homes of friends.

Proud of the kid for making it to this point, but the news is either throwing Awbarn fans a bone or ranking a kid that is just outside of Bham higher than some of the others that are farther away.

There is really no logic in the B'ham News ranking of most anything.
Does anyone remember back when they ranked Terry Jones Jr. as the #1 basketball prospect ahead of Gerald Wallace?? :conf2:

As far as these current rankings go, they always do a "post season" ranking and it usually ends up being quite different from this "pre-season" version.

I could see this guy making the top 5 in state. He is big target with good hands, but IMO he will have to have very big year production wise to be ranked this high.

I guess this mean that LaDarius Owens will be number two, and DeMarcus Milliner will be the top prospect on the Birmingham News list.
That would mean Nick Perry won't be on the list. Perry is better than Sam Gibson (his own teammate) who was on the list. A major factor to me that would put Nick ahead of Sam is the fact that Sam plays qb and is supposed to be changed to the same position Nick plays. Makes no sense to me.

Wow!

I'm honestly not saying this because he is committed to All-Barn, but no way Richardson is the #3 in-state player this year. Actually I would not rate Richardson in the top 6.

It does not matter if we get him or not, but I just don't see LaDarius Owens as the #2 in-state player.

Also, Jarrick Williams is rated far too low at #7.

The Bham News must have drawn names out of a hat. This is a joke, but I would expect nothing less from them when it comes to recruiting.

Well we all knew this was coming but it still doesn't change the fact that it's laughable. Even in a relatively down year such as this year Richardson isn't a top 3 guy IMHO. But we are talking about the B'ham News here so...........:rolleye2:

I have to feel for the kid and what he has been through, but there is no way in the world that he is the #3 in the state this year. I saw him play a couple of times over the last two years-he has average speed and did not display any skills that made him stand out on the field even at the level of competition he is playing. He is a big target with above average hands who broke a lot of 5'10" 170 pound CBs' tackles , but that is about it.
If Nick Perry does not make the list, and I feel certain he will not be on the list, then the list is a joke. Rating JR higher than CJ is another joke. Putting Gibson on the list and leaving Perry off is a joke. But this is just about what I have come to expect from the News.

All this ranking stuff will play out in its own sweet time. Here's to you, Jeremy. Pick your friends well. Make your family proud.

I can not believe that Nick Perry did not make the list but Kenneth Carter and Sam Gibson did.

Just got back from the Walker-Springville game. It's been a good while since I've been to a high school game, and I'm not a scout.... but it's got to be a down year in the state if this kid is #3. He had one nice catch and run, a couple of short receptions, at least one drop, and I wasn't impressed by his run blocking.
I thought Walker's defense did a good job against Springville despite losing 14-6. Walker's QB was everybody's offense. A long TD run, a pick-six, and another pick (actually by Richardson, a present in the flat) down to Walker's 5 or 6. He was also burned badly on a long pass route, but our reciever was overthrown by a step or two.
I'm not saying he's not good, but #3 in the state? Anyway, figured I'd add my two cents, since I was at a game with someone on the list.

Watched Cullman destroy Springville last Thursday night. If Richardson is the #3 prospect in Alabama, I'm an astronaut. He had one catch against our first team for 2 yards and another vs the jv's for 14. Cullman has much better receivers in my opinion. Cullman jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the 1st qtr. and he appeared to loose interest in the game. It is easy to see why Bama backed off. It's a good example of why the star ratings should be taken with a grain of salt.

The rating services certainly are not fool proof, but neither is the NFL Draft. I just think it stands out that the program to finish with the top ranked recruiting class, per Rivals, has went on to win a national title in those particular kids' college career.

As for Richardson, I never understood the pub either. His offer list wasn't that impressive and plenty of people have talked about his lack of consistency

If Richardson is the #3 prospect in Alabama you are an austronaut and I'm the #2 recruit in the state of Alabama. And I can assure you I'm not the #2 in state recruit.
