The Decline of SCOTUS into a Partisan Political Body

odd that this isn't getting more attention
Everyone already knew that it was a ridiculously high number.

But wait, there's more:

The 2019 trips disclosed by Justice Thomas refer to two excursions with Harlan Crow, a Texas real estate magnate and donor to conservative causes. During one, he and his wife, Virginia Thomas, flew aboard Mr. Crow’s private jet to Indonesia, where they spent more than a week island-hopping on Mr. Crow’s superyacht.

Justice Thomas did not provide a dollar value on his disclosure form, but ProPublica had estimated that if Justice Thomas had paid for the plane trip and yacht himself, the trip could have exceeded $500,000.

But here's what really makes you go hmmmmm:

Justice Thomas did not report any gifts or private jet flights or travel from benefactors for 2023, the year covered by the most recent disclosures.

Welcome to the club.
I think since Wickard v. Filburn overthrew the Constitution in 1942, the Supreme Court has been a pretty partisan political body.
Before that, in Dred Scot and Plessy v. Ferguson the court waded into partisan politics (to save the political organs of government form having to wrestle with thorny issues) and mucked things up pretty badly in the process.

they keep showing us who they are.

but hey, both sides
I would love be a centrist and be able to pick the best from both parties, but here we are. Corruption is the new smart governance. Felons are the new best candidates. Insurrectionist attacking the capital over made up/imaginary voting fraud are the new patriots.

I knew we would go this way after President Bush was elected, but come on. Let's pull up before we crash the plane.

How damn far down the spiral must we go before this stops?

The SC wants to say these massive bribes are just everyday innocent gifts between friends…and expect the public to swallow that?

I believe there was a recent law passed that outlawed protests near a SC judge’s house… they were offending the justices and scaring them.
But Ms. Alito uses her house as a home base to protest and troll everybody in sight.

Alito said his wife was putting up the flags and he can’t control her…but he can control everybody else’s wife.

If they were trolling the Trumper right wingers as strongly as they are the left there is no telling what the response would be.

I am now back to the idea that we need to expand the court. We have to have a way to mitigate the impact of these bought and paid for clowns on the right

This could be entertaining. Whitehouse does not pull his punches.

You want to destroy the court forever expand it. The first mistake was Reid blowing up the 60 vote threshold for the court. If that were still in place it would force more middle-of-the-road justices to be nominated at this point. Instead, we get ideologues from both sides of the aisle now.

If Biden or Trump were to expand it to 11 or 13, the next time the Senate and WH switched hands, you would get a court of 13 or 15 and on down the line until there were 77 justices. It would never stop. The genie won't be put back in the bottle. McConnell told Reid not to blow up the 60 vote confirmation threshold. He did it and now look where we all are.
