For those who enjoy watching (freedom) fighter jets.......

The US Navy Blue Angels and US Air Force Thunderbirds performed a very rare joint flyover above New York City, Trenton, Newark, and Philadelphia on April 28, 2020 to honor health care and essential workers fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. The teams departed from NAS Pensacola in Florida and were refueling mid-flight by four KC-10 Extenders before returning back to Pensacola. Flyovers will continue around the country under the name Operation America Strong.

Worth noting....today marks the 78th anniversary of the Japan surrender ceremonies on the USS Missouri......and the formal end of WWII.

The USS Missouri was at anchor with an impressive armada including 5 aircraft carriers, 12 battleships, 26 cruisers, 116 destroyers and escorts, 12 submarines and 185 other naval vessels. In addition to the American and British ships, there are ships from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the Netherlands represented in Tokyo Bay to witness the end of World War II.

"My first big recipe was shark repellant that I mixed in a bathtub for the Navy, for the men who might get caught in the water."

Before she mastered the art of French cooking, Julia Child cooked up shark repellent while working for the precursor to the CIA as a covert operative during World War II. Sharks kept unintentionally setting off underwater explosives meant for German U-boats — until Child came up with an inventive recipe that saved the day.

My only nit is her opening comment that Memorial Day is the time to honor those that served. It's actually a day to remember and honor those no longer with us, who served. Good story regardless.........

Lived to 105...... (y)

In battles with German aircraft in 1940, Hemingway was twice forced to bail out of his Hurricane fighter, once landing in the sea near England before returning to his squadron to continue the fight, the RAF told the AP. Hemingway received an award for the Distinguished Flying Cross for gallantry in 1941.

After the Battle of Britain, Hemingway worked as a controller, assisting the RAF’s response to German attacks. He later served as commander of No. 43 Squadron, which flew in northern Italy.

Hemingway retired in 1969 after over 30 years of service, the AP noted.

Just got home from Walmart and shook a Marine vet's hand and thanked him for his service (Korea and Vietnam). In a wheelchair being driven by his daughter. I'm so grateful when these vets wear a ball cap letting us know who they are. I worked "leatherneck" into the brief conversation and you should have seen his big smile break out!

Just a huge honor and privilege to be able to shake these warrior's hands and tell them thank you.

Always makes my day.....
