I read this story last week and thought it was interesting. I wonder how many of those hats are out there now/have been made? He has a few in his office. I have toured the facility a few times over the last few years (when the coaches are not there). Once, I put his straw hat on that he had hanging on the rack, and sat at his desk with it on. That was fun. Too bad I have not met any of the coaches though. That would be neat to do that some day.

I still want to know (have not read it anywhere that I can remember) when he chose to start eating oatmeal creme pies and why he chose that instead of another kind; same with the payday candy bar that he has on Sundays. I've only heard him talk about the Payday candy once in an interview, but all he said was that he ate one each Sunday during the season. :) RTR

The Payday candy bar (which I like) story's mystery is in the same vein as to why Gus and Kristi ate post home game dinner at IHOP. Makes you wonder.

Somethings get lost in a season like this and that is how incredibly lucky we have been to have CNS on our sidelines. I grew up watching football around 1967 with CPB as the coach… the Man was larger than life when he retired and subsequently died it took 25 years for anyone to come close to his stature. My dad and I were at the Independence Bowl in 2007 and even though we lost a close game it was being reported in the papers that CNS was being pursued by CMM.

A strange thing happened as we hit the exit ramp of the stadium some fan started the cheer “Roll Tide, Roll Tide” it picked up to a loud pitch as we exited the stadium. Anyone nearby would have thought we won the game but it was the sound of Hope … believing there was a chance that we could hire CNS and our fortunes would turn and how they did… really beyond anyones imagination.

I was at Bryant Denny that spring with my dad and a few cousins as we loaded the stadium with scores waiting outside and cheered a glorified scrimmage simply because He was here. Don’t get me wrong this season has been hard to take and frustration beyond imagination for the team, the Coach, and the fans. Really what we need to be doing is enjoying the ride. CNS will stay as long as he wants, hire who he wants and we will continue winning championships. It may be five or if we are fortunate ten years, but unlike 2007 the years now have a shelf life. Enjoy the ride nothing lasts forever even though as I did through those 25 years I will root for the Tide til I die.
