Game Thread: The Obama Inauguration 2008

Just got in from inauguration down on the National Mall and I have to say it was worth all the headaches of the past couple days. The energy was like nothing I've ever experienced in my lifetime, not to mention the crowds - people as far as you could see in every direction (not to mention national guardsmen, buses, limos, police, etc.).

I met a lot of folks from all over the world and scored tickets to tonight's People's Inaugural Ball, which is the one that all the Redskins & Ravens players are going to (hopefully I'll get to talk with Samuels and McClain). It was a pain getting back to my condo, but it was well worth it - Bush flew right over my head in Marine One and the crowd went crazy. The scene has been more incredible than I could've imagined.

I'm optimistic for the first time in a long time. We'll see what happens.

I am also happy to see someone else get a chance to turn this ship. I am not as optimistic, but that has nothing to do with Obama. I just wonder, did you ever wish GWB well in getting us out of the troubles that we faced over the last 7+ years (post 9/11)? I don't mean to direct this just at you, but at the entire GWB hating crowd.

I think that our country is doomed, but I pray that Obama or Bush or anyone else can make a difference. I don't get the sense that most Americans pray for their president (or whatever passes for prayer in their respective lives) unless they voted for him...

I think some on here will pray to Obama.:biggrin:

I bet they never stopped to think about the fact that if President Bush had failed as badly as they wished for him to, their freedoms and well-being would have gone down in flames with him because he is the President of the country in which they're living. You can't expect your President to fail miserably and your country to remain the same as it always has...

And all because he didn't have their preferred party name attached to his title. Where the hell is the sense in that?

do not mistake criticizing a poorly performing president for his performance with wishing him failure. the two things are worlds apart

Is that really necessary???

It's definitely going to be interesting watching the sensitivity level rise. In the past, it's been ok to compare Bush to Hitler, compare our soldiers to Nazis, etc.. But the same people who weren't bothered by that will now be offended by any comment about Obama that isn't a glowing compliment.

Let the fun begin....

The fun's already begun.

The cheese shop can't keep up with all the orders for whine. :biggrin:

Read the original comment again. It was a cheap shot directed at Tidefans who support Obama - NOT at Obama.

I'm sorry. I know you are excited and overwhelmed right now but he is just a man. Not superhuman, not a savior and not even a rock star. Just a man.

He is the President. Please don't try to read our minds or think you know how those of us who support our President feel - you're not good at it.

the "i know you are but what am i" retort cuts through so much clutter though ;)

We're all mind-numbed Obamatrons who worship at the altar of Change.

Well it's a good thing we're not all gun-toting, crazed, snowbilly-lovin', End Times witch-doctor supportin', maverick home-schoolin' polygamists with kids named Tick-Tack, Tractor Trailer Rig.

It feels kind of weird, does'nt? Sounds like it is the first time you have ever felt that way.

"He is the President" I think that the days that this country showed ANY respect for the office of the presidency went away about 10 yrs ago. Obama hisself has lead the way when it comes to disrespecting the President.

I think that the Obama administration is facing some harsh challenges to their belief system in the upcoming months and years. I think theyhonestly believe that people like Iran's President Mookie, Hugo Chavez, Hamas, Hezbollah, and Al Qaeda:

* Respect the Rule of Law

* Respect treaties

* Respect the U.S. Criminal justice system

* Believe in negotiating in good faith

* Would never lie to us

* Respect the U.N.

* And that we'll have peace if the U.S. would just give in a little and back down a little.

How do I think this attitude will be received by Mssrs. Mookie and Chavez?

Think of the movie "Team America" when Hans Blix pays a visit to Kim Il Jong. Blix tells Kim, "If you don't comply with our request for information, we'll send you a letter from the U.N. telling you how angry we are. And if you still don't comply, we'll send you another letter telling you that we're very, very angry.".

Kim (scowl on his face) tells Blix, "Hans, you're busting my balls here." and then promptly feeds Blix through a trap door into a pool of sharks.

Pretty hilarious but I fear it's basically the response we'll get from Obama's foreign policy.

LOL. Hilarious but a very good comparison.
