The Price of Vinyl then and Now.

I was watching a vido clip of an Interview with Tom Petty from 1981 where he was talking about the price of albums going from $8.98 to $9.98. I know how econmics fgures into it, but I just can't see paying $25 - $50 bucks for an album.

I see what you're saying. But overall inflation would say that $10 in 1981 is about $36 today. So it looks like the price of a vinyl record is right on track.

And that's true! And a lot of has to do with Supply and Demand, cost to make them, The Record Company, etc..... I guess I'll stick with getting the digital albums at 9.99 form Apple. It just seems crazy to a GenXer!

At one time I saw an argument from record purists that their sound was far superior to that of digital sound. Is that still true. Could my 75 year old ear drums and brain tell the difference?

I think that is something hipsters say to sound cool.

I am a GenXer so I have heard vinyl, cassette, CD, and mp3. I can hear a difference in all 4. It subtle in CD to mp3, but it is there. I have only heard one album on all 4, Metallica's Master of Puppets.

Digital is cleaner, but vinyl gives it the old school feel. Cassettes are easily the worst.

I agree with everything else.

CD’s and MP3’s are the cleanest audio.

Vinyl has a warm nostalgic sound but it’s also a bit grainy/dirty sounding.

Cassettes and 8 tracks are by far the worst. Abominations really but they were the 1st and best portable versions before CD’s and digital MP3’s.
