Seeing that players getting yearly "salaries", roster expansion, revenue sharing, the NIL and the transfer portal will soon be the norm in CFB. I thought it would be a good idea to get people's opinions on what unintended consequences (both good and bad) they think may be coming down the pike. We can look back a few years from now and see how prophetic we were. Ready.Set.GOOO!!!!

Players not yet ready for prime time (3 stars that simply need time to develop physically)...even some with high ceilings may never get an opportunity to grow and start at blue blood schools as positions of need are filled by transfers who come in with both maturity and experience

Unintended consequence...
People like me lose interest in college football. It will be tough to keep the level of interest when that high school recruit you were hoping for finally signs just to transfer out to a new school every year for more money.
In the long run it could also hurt the NFL. I am not a big NFL fan, but I do watch anytime it is on TV because there are Alabama players. When those players are only at Alabama for a year or two, either in the beginning of their college career or at the end, I just don't think I will have that same fan/player attachment as I do when I have watched his growth through his entire college career.

Viewership and number of fans will (continue to) increase in volume, but the passion and sentiment based on to tradition, quirks, memories, etc will (continue to) decrease

It will look more and more like the NFL and will work with the NFL more and more

I was thinking about that before opening up TideFans. I am not sure I should I have a high level of interest in the game any longer. I am not sure that tax payer supported universities should have any role at all in professional sports. What should a university have to offer an athlete who is asking for $ millions? Does a degree enter into it? I wonder how it could have gone so completely out of control practically overnight.

If the annual salaries increase each year you stay with a school as has been suggested you actually take away a lot of the transfer craziness happening right now.

HS recruiting becomes more important.

*The overall "cost" of watching CFB will be much more expensive. I'm not sure if anyone watched the latest Josh Pate video but breaking news today is saying the "settlement" for the "House vs NCAA" case may cost each "big" school approximately $300,000,000 in damages to be paid out over the next 10 years. That's $30M per year for those who can't do quick math.

*One of the dangers in giving a "kid" a lot of money before they can handle it is they get themselves into more life-altering trouble than they otherwise would. College kids already make bad decisions as it is, without hundreds of thousands and potentially millions of dollars in their pockets. I foresee more bad life decisions from players that will come with a lot higher price tags.

* I foresee labor disputes and strikes when what they're making is no longer deemed "enough".

Unintended consequences:

3-star HS recruits get less and less attention in favor of transfers. 3-stars are largely unknown quantities, and require development. If they don’t develop, you’ve wasted a spot. If they do develop, there’s a good chance they’ll transfer. IOW, there’s a lot of risk, and transfers are much more of a known quantity.

Due to high player turnover, in combination with increasing ticket and TV prices, fans have less engagement and loyalty. In a tough year, attendance and eyes on screens will fall quicker and more precipitously than in the past.

$300M in damages!?!😳🤔

THAT was the settlement amount!?😳

Exactly WHO gets that?
