This may be just silly, but do you think they may be giving reasons for making a QB change if something doesn't go well? I mean, it does sound like a conspiracy theory, but like @Bamabuzzard said earlier, we are playing East Popcorn St. University Saturday so we could discuss it.
Russell is the future unless Ty stays. JMHO
The problem with that is this upcoming QB class isn't very strong and you've got some bad teams needing a QB who are drafting in the top 10. So Ty is just as likely to be taken higher in this upcoming year's draft than he would if he came out the following year.IMO his best move is to go pro and get drafted later in the 1st round where he is not doomed by getting drafted by a losing franchise. There is a reason that so many of the top picks end up being busts. They end up with bad organizations. Get picked late first round and you are going somewhere good that can develop you.
If Ty stays, Russell's future is very likely elsewhere.
This might not be a popular opinion, but I think it's foolish to worry about what the backup QB might or might not do. I recognize that Russell is very talented, but my guess is that, if forced to choose between the two for next year, I would prefer to have Simpson back. Regardless of whether Simpson stays or goes, the NIL/portal era provides no guarantees that a player will stay, so why worry about it. Especially when considering that a team like Alabama can go to the portal to get another talented QB.
It’s often said that among fans the “most popular guy on the team is backup quarterback because in their opinion he’s better than the guy already taking the snaps”. And we as Bama fans aren’t immune to that thought process. Yours truly included. This might not be a popular opinion, but I think it's foolish to worry about what the backup QB might or might not do. There's just as much of a guarantee that the kid we've got coming in the 2026 (Jett Thomalla) will be a star as there is Russell will be a star. In other words, there aren't any guarantees the backup star recruit quarterback is going to be a superstar once he gets his chance. No amount of NIL money can assure that. If Ty wanted to come back, I'd take him back in a heartbeat. A bird in the hand is better than a bird in the bush.
we don't need to be concerned what rounds Ty will get drafted. his NFL future will be his and family to decide. I am Bama first and foremost, I selfishly only care about our future football program. The problem with that is this upcoming QB class isn't very strong and you've got some bad teams needing a QB who are drafting in the top 10. IMO. Ty is better off going to the pros. they have enough on him to decide and I think for Ty sake, he should start making real money. he has a chance to improve his skills with a possible 3-6 games remaining depending on our Playoff chances.
I would be shocked if Russell decided to stay if Ty comes back. With NIL and how impatient these kids are these days, a rival would love to entice him away from Bama!! Honestly, whether fans think he's ready or not to start, $$ and playing time will be the deciding factor. It's not complicated how this will play out and I'm sure Deboer is fully aware of the conundrum if this scenario occurs.Right now, I think Ty is projected to be the 2nd QB taken in the draft... he is great at pre and post snap/IQ, etc. I think he should go to the NFL if he is going to be drafted that high. He can get lots of coaching and experience for a year or two, which is probably just as effective as coming back to Bama another year. He loves Bama... he will not transfer anywhere. It will be either NFL or return to Bama.
I think Keelon would wait another year if Ty decided to return, but he would not wait another year after that. I hope both Austin and Keelon get to play a lot this Saturday. I think Ty should only play 1 quarter or maybe a bit more. Give the other guys some good reps.. .we may need them at some point, especially with the way Ty has gotten blitzed and sacked this season.
