Gotta lobby for my team. We have defects but there is no way we should be left out of this playoff. My argument?

My take on Vegas ATS guess if games were played tomorrow:

Notre dame - Bama -12
Oregon - Bama +6
Penn state - Bama -17.5
Ohio state - Bama - 13.5
Clemson - Bama -20.5
Arizona state vs Iowa state winner - Bama -23.5
Texas - Bama +8.5
UGA - Bama -2.5
Tennessee - Bama pickem
Boise state - Bama -26.5
Miami - Bama -17
South Carolina - Bama -12
Indiana - Bama -30.5
smu if they lose to Clemson - Bama-31

Come on guys. You don't have an opinion on this? Vegas needs to be the committee. It is not perfect but is much closer than anything we have now. I mean really, Condeleesa Rice, Hodo, and the rest of Mordor has their directives but it is we that know this sport. Don't be stupid.

Some of those spreads are too optimistic but we'd be favored over many of those teams. I've said a few times that I think Sagarin's ratings are close to what the actual spread would be. I think we'd be most favored over Boise State, probably -14. We'd be underdogs to Notre Dame, Texas, Ohio State and Oregon. If we'd have to play at PSU first round we'd be slight dogs to them too. Certainly we deserve to be in the playoff based upon what Vegas would think.

IDK, when you lose to Vandy, maybe you don't deserve it!!!!!
I would think we would want the best teams in the playoff. Does puke "deserve it" with a loss to the hogs? Does Indy "deserve it" by playing a weak schedule and losing their only tough game? That is the problem with the human element in a committee scenario. My argument is, what does Vegas say? If Alabama were to be favored in over half the prospective field then we belong in the competition.

I'd be willing to bet we make it in. Seems like we get the benefit of the doubt most of the time by the end of the year. I could be wrong this year with some ugly losses but we shall see. The CFP rankings show will make good TV for us again.

I get why the analytics have us rated highly, but analytics are never going to tell the whole story. We know by any measurable metric that Alabama is one of the top 5 most talented rosters in the country. The problem is, by metrics which are not truly measurable, we are barely top 15 right now. (That's how you lose the games we lost, yet beat Georgia and destroy LSU on the road).

So I'm not totally for letting Vegas odds have a say in the playoff bracket. Favorites don't win games every time... But on the whole, I do think Alabama is worthy of a bid in this 12 team field. We are a solid bubble team, if you will, as is Ole Miss, South Carolina, and Miami. An argument can be made for all 4. I think we have the strongest case, Miami the weakest.

I just saw on ESPN that we have a 30% chance of making the playoffs.
What has to happen in the various conference championship games to boost our odds?

It doesn't seem like the Big 10 championship matters one way or the other.
Would UGA beating Texas help us since we beat UGA?
Does Tulane-Army affect us? Clemson-SMU?

Just noodlin'

Nice predictive programming ploy by the bafoons trying to influence the committee. I am biased, 100%. We are not a great team this year but we can win a game in this playoff field this year, maybe two. That is more than I can say for over half the teams the ESPN guessers want in this competition.

I don't think the UGA/Texas game matters with regards to Alabama. Perhaps we get a bit of a boost in SOS if Georgia wins. But both Georgia and Texas are in.

Clemson/SMU should not affect us either because only the winner of that game is getting in. (My theory is the ACC is a one bid league).

Boise State is getting the group of 5 bid if they beat UNLV. Tulane is out whether they beat Army or not. Army isn't getting in. They got absolutely destroyed by Notre Dame.

So, I don't really think anything is going to happen this weekend that will impact our chances. We'll see.

There's no doubt in my mind that Bama deserves a spot. But I won't be surprised if they don't get in (although I'll be way salty given some of the teams that will). That OK loss was ugly and, given the committee's previous rankings and trends, I expect it'll count way more against Bama that UNI will against Notre Dame. This committee has shown no respect for strength of schedule thus far - Bama has the most Top 25 wins of any team in the running against the hardest schedule. Safe to say most of the contending teams would prefer not to play Bama.

It just feels like this committee is looking to send some sort of stupid message by ignoring the SEC's clear superiority as a league. The headwinds just feel too strong to me, so I'll be pleasantly surprised if we make the field.

The team really should've handled their business in Norman to eliminate any doubt.

The CFP committee managed to take what the fans had been asking for....the top 12 teams and make a complete farce of picking just 12 teams from different conferences. Hopefully they redux the process because this has been a complete cluster. It also exposed the rankings...AP/Coaches/CFP...not all things are equal so treating them as such is again...a farce and just being in denial.

ND screws this up as an independent....they need to join a conference already! this isnt the 1950's...if they want to be independent treat them as a G5 contender NOT as a conference team...

The SEC/Big Ten should have forced this. There is no reason to bow down to them anymore.

Whole conferences can hold things hostage, like the Big Ten/Pac10 used to do with the Rose Bowl and the BCS. As valuable as Notre Dame is as a historical entity in the college football universe, they are still ONE team. No one is going to question the legitimacy of a championship if Notre Dame is not included. Especially with the joke/weak schedules they are prone to play these days.

So why the concessions to Notre Dame? I can only think it is because the Big Ten and SEC covet them as members and do not want to upset them and thus push them into the arms of another league such as the ACC.

I get the feeling we will be left out in a DEI sort of way which is the reason for the expansion in the first place. The weaklings will be slaughtered, we'll shout from the rooftops "WE TOLD YOU SO," and the same thing will happen again next year after they expand to 16 teams. What a life man.
