Thoughts on QB situation after Game 5?

Honestly… I won’t feel very good until we get to LSU without another loss. These next 3 weeks are going to be tough and I think they will tell us if there is something in the cards or not. I don’t think we are progressing fast enough at the moment on offense to feel really good about it. The 95 Nebraska and 92 Alabama teams don’t win anymore. You have to be able to win some sort of shootout game. I think the the biggest takeaway from the Ole Miss vs LSU game was not that our defense held that offense to 10 but rather that we struggled to score 24 on that defense.

Alot of it is that we banked on Simpson being the guy in the spring and spurned guys like Van Dyke and the NC Qb who were demanding bigger payouts prior to spring to come because we thought we had something. Simpson didn’t pan out and both quarterbacks had awful springs and we brought in Buchner out of desperation.

I think next year will be better as far as quarterbacks and the OC being comfortable with the guy that is the Qb. I just don’t think any of the 3 guys that started this year will be on the roster with Sayin coming in and the commitment that we have to Lonergan and Holstein.

I know a lot of people compare the Blake Sims situation with the Milroe situation but they couldn’t really be more different. Sims was Kiffin’s guy from the start and was very familiar with his talents. Sims was further ahead as a quarterback than Milroe. Milroe and Rees are still trying to figure each other out and I’m just not sure that they are going to get it fixed in time.

There is hope, but there would be way more of it had we not threw away the game vs Texas earlier in the year.
Well, the only team to score more than 24 on Ole Miss was LSU. And they lost. You never know how games will go.

But at Alabama, if the defense disguised the pre-snap read, Tua absolutely could not read the real defense once the ball was snapped. He was terrible at it, and remained terrible at it until last year. His insane passing accuracy and quick release helped him overcome that.
No doubt

I think people also know Coach Saban’s history when in comes to QB’s. When he finally “lands” on someone, he usually sticks with them through thick and thin. That goes all the way back to his LSU days.

I fully expect Milroe, barring injury, to be the starter from this point forward. And regardless of what any fan or talking head thinks, he believes JM gives us the best chance to win. I don’t think even Coach Saban thinks Jalen will ever be a great quarterback. As you said he probably believes he’s “the best he’s got”.

It is what is I guess..
Milroe is doing fine under the circumstances. It's difficult when defenses each week pressure and blitz non stop. And when they don't, they're loading the box. This didn't happen until last year. Bryce did as well as any to deal with it. But his numbers weren't as good as the year before. The pistol has helped. There's the OL struggles too. I'm hoping the offense comes together today with a few big plays.

There's a reason they are doing it to us and it's pretty obvious.

They don't fear Milroe beating them with his arm. He can change that today by making them pay. If he shows he will take advantage of that then they will stop. He has a good deep ball, but you have to have time for that to develop. He's got make them pay with passing consistently hitting around the 8-15 yard range.

Not just that either. It's true, obviously but our OL has been a weakness and our running game is pedestrian.

I think their coaches are well aware of Milroe's capabilities. And they're going after him just as they did Young last year. I think they all got fed up with Bama's great quarterbacks, and decided, "What have we got to lose?". And that was last year.
