Tiger Woods' divorce settlement

He entered into a contract with her and he then broke that contract. Repeatedly. Again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again, and again.

Fixed it for you.

Well, good for her and the kids. It's an insane amount of money, but quite frankly she deserves every penny given how he repeatedly conducted himself throughout their marriage.

Tiger Woods is a joke of a human being. A talented joke, but a joke nonetheless. I hope Elin never marries again and just has one hot lover after another, each one wealthier and better-looking than the one before.
I am staggered by that settlement. Tiger must be worth two or three billion bucks to dole out that amount. Granted, he did her wrong and she deserves a nice piece of the pie, but gosh.

Whatever Tiger is worth, he will find it tough to earn comparable amounts going forward because he lost so many of his premium endorsements. It is a tough ride to recoup those. Still, he made his bed (or beds) and he now has to live with it.

She's already living like that. That's why she married him. She would have never married in the first place if the money wasn't right. Is there anybody willing to believe she was anything more than a trophy wife from the get-go?

Any man that behaves as he apparently did deserves to be taken to the cleaners by his wife. No excuses.

Something tells me Tiger will still have a pretty good life. He still has hundreds of millions, and probably more than that that Elin's investigators didn't uncover.

I try not to take the womans side in these matters but I agree with you SD. The one thing that is most important is they both love and take care of the kids without putting them in the middle.

First, you would think there would have been a prenuptial agreement to address these matters for far less than $750 million.

Second, doesn't taking the money make her a little bit of an accomplice in the whole deal? As another poster said, what did she really have to do with creating the wealth? She was a nanny when they met, according to what I have read.

They weren't business partners. As I said before, he must be OK with it or he wouldn't be willing to pay it. Evidently he was an even badder bad boy than we thought and is willing to do anything to keep a lid on it.

Nawh. He's only willing to do $750 million worth. Speaking of "worth",,,, how many zeros is "every penny". My head hurts.

First, he can afford it. I'm reminded of the original fine the judge imposed on Michael Milken back in 1990 for his conviction on US Securities fraud charges. (A good example of why you can't really trust Wikipedia under the Michael Milken page). Suffice to say the fine was ultimately considerably more that Tiger's divorce settlement. Milken simply paid the fine and left everyone wondering how much money he had left over.

Second, the money goes to the mother of two of his children. That's where it all goes eventually anyway unless he was going to leave it to his cat or something. (No offense, Bayou). ;)

Third, more than money Tiger needs motivation to play his best golf. He's never going to get the kind of endorsement money he used to get so he's never going to amass the kind of money he used to make. He may play some decent golf in the future, though.

Fourth, I'm not going to throw stones at a man that has the particular character flaw that manifests itself as a weakness for women.
I fight that battle daily. The "Tiger Would" t-shirts kind of make me hang my head a little. Funny, though. :D

It's okay for those without this particular personal defect to cast aspersion but EVERYONE has some flaws or shortcomings. When I see it I am reminded of the quote from the 2004 movie the Alamo:

"I don't drink, Jim, you know that. I gamble, go to whores, run off on wives... but drinking, I draw the line".

Not my place to judge people. I've got my own problems to worry about and if I concentrate on them enough maybe I can just keep most of them under control.

And there's also this from the 1999 movie "Office Space":

Peter Gibbons: What would you do if you had a million dollars?
Lawrence: I'll tell you what I'd do, man: two chicks at the same time, man.
Peter Gibbons: That's it? If you had a million dollars, you'd do two chicks at the same time?
Lawrence: Damn straight. I always wanted to do that, man. And I think if I were a millionaire I could hook that up, too; 'cause chicks dig dudes with money.
Peter Gibbons: Well, not all chicks.
Lawrence: Well, the type of chicks that'd double up on a dude like me do.
Peter Gibbons: Good point.

Good thing for the world I have no money I guess.

That's all irrelevant, he's not reimbursing her for anything she did to help create the wealth, he's buying her silence so he can create more wealth.

Besides, he's evidently OK with it which should give us an idea of how sordid the details actually are.
Yep. There's some stuff he don't want public that warrants this kind of money

This makes my Dad's sage advice to me when I went thru puberty ring in my ears, "Son, it would be a lot better if you just kept that thing in your britches."

once again proving that parents are some of the dumbest people on the planet.
obviously he didnt follow his own advice if he made you. ;)

Really? So if he's Eldrick Woods, plumber extraordinaire, she would still have married him?

As I said before, he must be OK with it or he wouldn't be willing to pay it. Evidently he was an even badder bad boy than we thought and is willing to do anything to keep a lid on it.

I'm not condoning what he did or saying that he doesn't owe her anything. But, it's not like we are talking about a person who put her own multi-million dollar career on hold to raise his children. If he wanted to pay her to keep her quiet and that is her price, then so be it, that's a contract. I am specifically responding to those who are saying he owes her $750 million for sleeping around.

Big settlement, good for her. That's how the system is set up & that's how things are done. Tiger's never going to hurt for lack of money regardless.

Can you imagine if Tiger had taken a different stance and turned out to be a trash talker? (Kind of like Dennis Rodman, or somebody like that.) Tiger at least played the contrite game and put on a public show about how wrong he was and asked for the public to forgive him, even went into therapy to help him keep his pants on.

Contrast that with what he could have said and done:

"Sure I like to chase skirts, it's kind of a challenge to see how quickly I can get a girl on her back. And I'm really good at it. I especially like the white girls, pretty and blonde, like the one I married."

"I've got more money than I can ever spend so I really don't give a rip what the public thinks. My favorite thing is playing these golf tournaments and trying to nail the daughters of the guys putting on the event. I haven't missed yet."

If folks are upset with Tiger now, he could have really poured it on and played the ultimate defiant villain. I'm not suggesting that's what he should have done, but it sure would have set his critics on fire.

Well, if he were a plumber, it's doubtful that he'd be pals with Jesper Parvinik who is who introduced them in the first place. Kinda doubt that ol' Jesper would be introducing his hot friends to his plumber in hopes of them hitting it off. But that's all irrelevant anyway, whether she's a gold-digger or not, they were never business partners and any illusion that they might be never entered either of their minds. This was simply a hot chick marrying a famous dude who was also filthy rich. Happens all the time.
