Back in '79, '80..something like that, the Houston Oilers were in the playoffs. Playing that darn Pittsburgh I think. We lost, but kinda on the spur of the moment a bunch of folks headed to the Astrodome to welcome them home. I was either a Senior in high school or a year out. Anyway, a bunch of us went and spent hours singing and partying in the Dome. By the time the team arrived the Dome was full with 20,000 folks outside.

Bum Phillips was coach, Pastorini was still QB I think, Carl Maulk was center. I remember Carl Maulk was so overcome with this unexpected welcome home... many in tears. Anyway, very cool moment and very cool to be a part of something like that. (Even saw Bum Phillips and others discuss it a couple of years ago in a documentary or TV segment)

Tuscaloosa is way too far from Fairhope or I'd be there, win or lose, decked out in Crimson and hollering at the top of my lungs!! Roll TIDE ROLL!!!! :BigA:

I wish I could be there to cheer the team when they arrive but I live alot closer to Atlanta than Tuscaloosa. Hope those close though can be there. These guys deserve our support. RTR :BigA:

I believe that was 1979. The Oilers got screwed big time by the officials. The Oilers receiver caught the game-winning catch in the end zone, but was called out of bounds. The Oilers would have gone to the Super Bowl too.
