Sure, put a QB in that hasn't seen a starting position against a fresh defense. The ULM game will be no measure of what he can do, and Auburn will(whether you believe it or not)rip him up. If there was a good reason in practice to put him in, then he'd be in. Period. I can't believe how this still comes up.
Videos from HS are MADE to make you look good. They, therefore, are no true measure. Heck, I could go out, play, and make an awesome looking video.
Also, I'd rather have our best shot at winning the next two games. JPW is that, regardless. I don't wanna fire a shot in the dark with GM. Nothing to lose? Sure, let's go 6-6 again. That's nothing. Comparably the same as 6-5 or 7-4.

I don't want McElroy to start the next two game but i would like to see him get a few reps at least to shakeup JPW. You say there is are no true measure yet for McElroy, yes thats true. But how many times are you going to measure JPW and get the same result?

He takes the sack we go in to half with a 6 point lead despite the problems with play calling. I don't think your asking too much of a junior to say you shouldn't throw a ball blindly to the endzone in that situation. Please end your love affair long enough to at least admit that play probably cost us the game in itself.
The play may have cost us the game, but I still do not lay that all on JPW. Yes he made a mistake. But so did the OL.
If we do start McElroy, what do you think that will do to JPW's confidence down the road. If McElroy started and then three 3-4 INTs, who are ya going to send in then. I wouldn't mind seeing McElroy play, just not under the circumstances many are whining for in this thread.
Has anyone else noticed that you can tell what type of game JPW will have in the first series of the game .
After The FSU game I knew that Saban was going to sink or swim with JPW . If we were ever going to see GM it should have been in that game . I know the coaches should and do know more about the QB's then we do .
What would it hurt to put the kid in for just one series and just see what he can do . When JPW is clearly struggling ( and he is right now ) what can it hurt .
I think against ULM I would start GM just to see how my starting QB ( jpw ) handles it . It might lite a fire under his throwing arm ? JPW just ain't getting the job done now . Why ? He has some really good receivers to throw to . When JPW is pressured he seems to lose vision of the field . He gets the " Happy Legs " and most of the time fires out of bounds or throws into heavy traffic . Watch in the Barn game , T'ville will bring the house to make JPW beat them . And JPW won't . My 0.02 .

I think all y'all saying GM shouldn't be put in are crazy. His stats are better than JPW's. (I haven't checked them but I'm sure they're better).
And if you need any more proof, take a look at his high school videos. Even his junior high videos. Against quality junior high teams!!!

Are you serious? GM has played maybe half of a quarter worth of minutes and you want to name the kid starter. Saban has proved that you earn your playing time in practice. Look at Jonathan Lowe playing RB and Javier Arenas playing DB. If McElroy wants he needs to learn how to take it. I wouldn't want a kid to be given a start, because he just waited around until the guy ahead of him screwed up. He should have a desire and drive to beat the guy ahead of him out for it.
Plus, who cares what he did in high school? Picking apart Odessa doesn't translate into picking apart Mississippi State. Jimmy Clausen was the #1 QB last year in high school, how's he doing now?
Get educated re: Mcelroy. He never played Odessa...he beat 4 Nationally ranked teams and more importantly, TX's best...on way to TX5A and National Championship. RE: Clausen...he played in a Mickey Mouse league. One game I watched he struggled against a bottom dweller from San Pedro. Quite frankly, both teams looked like TX5A junior varsity.
Me either, especially after our QB has single handedly lost a couple of games. :rolleye2:
This is about a process. The best opportunity is to least least see what he can do against Ooh La Mo. It doesnt mean he has to start against Auburn, but game action is way more valid than practice, and he can give us some sort of an idea as to what to look forward to next spring.
And JPW helped build a dynasty at Hoover. He won 3 state championships. He beat nationally ranked teams from other states. He also won those championships against teams like Daphne and the one year they lost it was to Daphne. Want to take a guess at who the QB was for those Daphne teams?????? Pat White is the answer. I'm sure you know who he is and what he has done. If we want to place blame and pull people let's start with the o-line ahead of him. Once again, they haven't held up, which leads to throwing off the back foot. Don't get me wrong JPW completed more passes to the fans in the front row than our WRs, but its not all his fault.

JPW on offense is what Castille is on defense! Forget what anybody said they will not lose their jobs in practice to freshman no matter what. They were starters last year and they were penciled in as starters from the get go.

If you put GM in without good blocking he's going to have a horrible time most likely. The difference is Alabama is more likely to turn the ball over, more likely to have false snaps and they would also have less options on offense.
I can not say that JPW is better than GM, but there is no question that he is more prepared at this point in time. I would like to see GM get some pt against ULM but it would need to be after a comfortable lead. Yes, JPW had a bad game and has flaws and so on, but throwing a kid out there just because you lost a couple of games isn't necessarily a way to move in the right direction (if you think things can't get worse look at Notre Dame, for the record they have QB controversy). I want JPW to get his blockers back and I hope the ULM game is a nice tune up for Auburn. I would like GM to get enough pt that he could be prepared if needs be in the Auburn game, but I really don't think some people understand the potential consequences of throwing a inexperienced freshman out there against SEC defenses. Alabama could have won against MSU and if things had gone a little different they would have. Until I see JPW struggle so much that Alabama doesn't even have a chance to win I have trouble seeing justification for going with plan b. We know he can win, we know he can get the job done. We can't know that about GM yet, all we can know is that he has limited experience.
Did you watch their game today? UGA dominated them, Alabama played them much better. Also, Auburn lost to MSU as well so struggles and all I don't see much difference between the two teams. Don't want to get into a polecat contest re: highschool football but just for info. TX5A is made up of 243 teams...many with enrollments of over 5M students. TX5A teams don't have to go out of state for national class competition...it's here. BTW, in '04 four Natiionally ranked teams, all in TX, were beaten by Southlake/Mcelroy. Oh by the way...MAC played behind a guy named Daniel for a couple of years...ever hear of him? Heisman watch people have. But then D1 is full of TX players...on ranked teams. And, many in the sports community considered MAC a better QB than Daniel...but Daniel was considered the better athlete, overall. In fact I heard on Dallas radio the other night some pros on Cowboy Legends name MAC as the best QB to come out of Southlake Carroll. QB metrics are what they are...and some guys never had them or will...regardless of the level of competition. Notice?

Everyone can recall how Prothro ignited the team when he was playing and how a new player can sometimes come into the game and things change. I think that the time has come to see if CM could spark the team. I am not bad mouthing JPW but players in every other position are substituted when they are playing poorly and I do not see the difference in trying a different QB. Steve Spurrier (who Bama tried to hire before NS became available) , who is know for pulling QB's out of a game, would have changed QBs already. I know Spurrier is smarter than I am about football because he is making a lot more money than I am. So lets give GM a chance.
For better or worse, JPW is our QB for the rest of the year (and next.) This team needs another offseason of fourth quarter physical training, spring practice and infusion of talent. And then...more of the same. It's going to take a couple more years of training and recruiting before we are going to be good again. It's a process, and it's a long process. The only thing left to play for this season are the small victories (like maybe beating Auburn and padding our all-time bowl appearance/wins records.)
Bama v/s FSU. FSU starting QB not doing well. Struggling big time. CBB puts in 3rd string QB (I'm thinking a freshman as well, i may be wrong) and he's the difference in the ballgame and FSU gets the W.
I don't how much I'm going to buy into changing QBs equals automatic spark. Many teams have done that this year and have been successful (i.e. FSU, Maryland, and South Carolina), but some have been busts (i.e. Michigan, Auburn, Notre Dame, and USC). Its more about the team being able to rally around the QB. I think JPW needs to improve his leadership skills some and take control of the huddle and the team. Show everyone that you have some confidence in yourself and the players around you. That will lead to the lines picking up their blocks and the receivers laying out for the more difficult catches. Today JPW looked a lot like Brodie did against Auburn in 2005. He was gun-shy and not confident in his ability to throw through a narrow window. We all know he's capable of doing it, because we've seen him thread a needle.
