I bought "Red Storm Rising" a while back at a used bookstore, and was wondering if anyone has read this book?
I want to start it, but I've convinced myself that it is outdated and not one of his best, am I wrong?
Also if you could recommend anymore of his books it would be appreciated.
Thank You.

I can`t claim to be a Clancy expert but I read the book some years ago and couldn`t put it down.

It was the first one I read, some say it wasnt one of his better ones, but it got me hooked . It doesn’t have Jack Ryan or the other players of his best works, but like Tideflyer, I couldn’t put it down and it wetted an appetite for more Clancy.

I read the Jack Ryan series in this order

Hunt for Red October
Patriot Games
Clear and present danger
Sum of all Fears
Without remorse

The Hunt for Red October and Clear and Present danger were my two favorites.

I read Cardinal of the Kremlin , Debt of honor, and Executive Orders. But not in order, and I didn’t enjoy them as much, although Executive orders was the best of those three IMO

The Jack Ryan Publication Order:
  1. The Hunt for Red October (1984)
  2. Patriot Games (1987)
  3. The Cardinal of the Kremlin (1988)
  4. Clear and Present Danger (1989)
  5. The Sum of All Fears (1991)
  6. Without Remorse (1993)
  7. Debt of Honor (1994)
  8. Executive Orders (1996)
  9. Rainbow Six (1998)
  10. The Bear and the Dragon (2000)
  11. Rod Rabbit (2002)
  12. The Teeth of the Tiger (2003)
  13. Dead or Alive (2010)
  14. Locked On (2011)
  15. Threat Vector (2012)
  16. Command Authority (2013)
  17. Support and Defend (2014)
  18. Full Force and Effect (2014)
  19. Under Fire (2015)
  20. Commander in Chief (2015)
  21. Duty and Honor (2016)
  22. True Faith and Allegiance (2016)
  23. Point of Contact (2017)
  24. Power and Empire (2017)
  25. Lino of Sight (2018)

Thanks. I will read it soon and give you my brief review.
Also are his books stand alone, or are they in some order that they need to be read in?

I've read all of Clancy's fiction and some of his non-fiction. Red Strom Rising was his second book and, IIRC, was co-written by Larry Bond. Read it in high school (before I even knew about The Hunt for Red October), and I got instantly hooked on the techno-thriller genre. Been reading Clancy and the other writers who inherited his characters ever since. You'll enjoy it. (y)
