Transfer Portal 2023-2024...

  • HELLO AGAIN, Guest! We are back, live! We're still doing some troubleshooting and maintenance to fix a few remaining issues but everything looks stable now (except front page which we're working on over next day or two)

Thanks for your patience and support! MUCH appreciated! --Brett (BamaNation)

That, if true, is a major infraction. Our collective can give that to a player on our roster but another schools collective cannot offer or promise as incentive to move.

People keep posting that this is happening and yet we see no proof. If the NCAA was willing to go after FSU then maybe they will start investigating some of these claims. Right now it’s all just a bunch of yada yada rumors that keep getting repeated until people believe that they are the truth.

If these claims that players are being offered NIL by the schools or collectives prior to enrolling is true and the NCAA is going to completely ignore it then they might as well just fold up shop and start over.
Well the school would have to be dumb enough to send the offer to the kid in some sort of recordable media. Then the kid would have to be dumb enough to share that evidence and be declared ineligible.

This is definitively happening and closing up shop and starting over is the only solution.

FSU is on 2 year probation, although I haven’t seen the particulars of what that entails.
Snuffy here are the details of the FSU probation. Remember as well that FSU gave $85 million contract extension to Norvell the day AFTER the probation was announced.

We all know NIL is not suppose to be used as an incentive to attend or transfer to a program. But it clearly is. These kids coming in all have agents or handlers now. As long as coaches/universities can offer plausible deniability, they are in the clear. We know that every program (including ours) is giving the collective a “target” list of HS recruits and transfers to “go after”.

The issue is if one schools boosters do that and the other school in consideration does not have any clause, guess where the player goes?

Only a governing body can fix this. But since this falls to boosters and not schools the NCAA has not authority over the issue.

Possibly but not necessarily if you get a 3 year NIL guarantee for the schools donors it also guarantees the kid a 3 year guarantee of making a certain amount of NIL. Guaranteed money is more important to some than total money with some athletes whether it’s football, baseball, basketball, etc.

The kid signs the deal, then transfers for another deal to go on top of that one...🙄

I had someone comment to me “I can’t understand players, particularly offensive player like starting receivers, bailing given DeBoer and OC Grubbs offense. These kids would get more “touches” than they could ever imagine”.

I told him that this isn’t about building a resume for the NFL in the future. The money being thrown at them with NIL is Monty’s Cookie Jar on Let’s Make Deal. The NFL is “what is behind door Number 1 or Number 3. Could be a lucrative or could be the “Zonk”. Tanking what they can get now

At this point I don't think optics, or possibly even the courts will allow for the NCAA to tighten the rules around the transfer portal in any way that will restrict the players ability to transfer. The paste is already out of the tube on that one.

So why then can't the NCAA put some restrictions around the schools with regards to accepting players from the transfer portal? Each team gets 85 scholarships, so then limit the number of transfers that a school can accept to 9 players a calendar year (roughly 10% of the scholarship allotment). The players can still enter the portal all they want, but the schools will have to be a bit more selective in who they pursue. I would also consider putting a restriction within the 9 allowable transfers that no more than 3 or 4 players can come from one particular school during the calendar year as well. That could put a limit on pulling something like what Lincoln Riley did when he tried to take half of his Oklahoma team with him to USC.

With regards to coaching changes and the 30 day window that comes with that situation....I think a solution would be to only let those players that have completed 2 seasons with the school be eligible for the 30 day transfer window. The older guys with less eligibility have more exposure during a coaching change due to the system of the new coach not fitting with the skill sets of some of those players....so let them finish out their career at a place that is more suited with their skill set.

I agree the NCAA opened Pandora’s box and closing the lid could be the end of the ncaa so they are going to be real careful not to upset the players in any way.

I just don’t understand the benefits of the the split transfer portal openings for college football unless your plan is to put playoff teams in binds. If you want to open it after season, open it after the title game and close it whenever you want but don’t open it for some and punish teams who make the playoffs. I mean they are opening it again after spring ball so you aren’t protecting the programs from players knowing playbooks and then going to other teams with the portal opening back up after spring ball. Don’t get me wrong there should be a cutoff date and I’d prefer it to be before spring ball, but if not then why not keep it open from end of season until end of spring ball.

Thats exactly why I think you will eventually see it more regulated through the schools (or at least the above board deals) have stipulations in place about if you transfer out then the deal becomes null and void and possibly even lose a certain percentage. Donors and collectives will eventually want guarantees because they are throwing money to the wind right now. We all know it’s against the rules but NIL is being manipulated and tampering with players and it’s so widespread that the only way to try and reel it in at all is through the schools compliance departments.

I'll believe it when I see it...🙄
