It's impossible to grade our net portal losses until after the April window where we think we'll be net gainers. Two of these players, Seth and Little, had already left before Coach. Seth and Bonds have already been replaced with comparable players. No doubt the secondary losses hurt, and will need to be a focus in April.
I think we have a pretty good advisor on staff who can help with DB’s ;)

I think you're right that we won't know the net gain/loss for a while, and it's really probably Sept before we really see how things shake out in games. Even with the new OC and WR coming in, while we can be optimistic about them, we won't really know their full measure until they get into SEC game play.

well, there are 5 starters, 6 if you count Amos since he started in dime.

Seth, Bond, Niblack, Proctor, Downs, Amos.

The bigger thing is also who was likely to be starting since we have a lot leaving for the NFL also.

Likely very likely Dez Ricks and Little in CB and nickel roles. Possible Preston. So let's settle on 8 guys that were slated as starters. That's a third of our projected starting lineup - that's not insignificant, especially when several of those guys backups also hit the road.
I thought Dippre was the starting TE. With Niblack a close 2. I guess they were more like co-starters, depending on the play.

Well, now we have two more 5* star players....I wonder where we're going to have room for all those 3* recruits CKD can only get?

It's funny how the narrative implies "well, NOW we have drop-in replacements for McKinstry and Arnold. Now that they picked up the 5th star!".

It looks good on paper though.

Where ever there's BBQ, Bourbon & Football
How does that happen, without new film or anything to judge? I'm not complaining, just don't understand how that works.
It worked the same way when Saban was our coach and across the board, with other recruits we didn't get, and I have no idea what facilitates the change.

Maybe they see them at camps that aren't very publicized or attend private workouts, etc. I know there's a kid on my 13U baseball team who is an excellent football player and he attends A LOT of "football camps" that range from the summer time and spring time. I know not all of them make the front page of the national recruiting websites. But, something is going on for recruits to get reclassified from 4* to 5*.

It's purely subjective on both ends of the conversation. IMO, McKinstry did not live up to his hype. I think he hurt his draft stock this season with all the muffed punts and times he got burnt. The guy was supposed to be lock down but though he wasn't anywhere near a "bust", he dang sure didn't perform according to the hype that came with him.

They're constantly grading the players which takes a lot of time. There are only ~30 (iirc) 5* each season, so as they have time to view more and more film of the various players, they elevate them (or lower them) according to those spots available.

These 3 true freshmen, Mincey, Brown, and Mbakwe I think will be great additions to the DB room. They definitely have the right attitude. There's even this meme floating around. They'll be pushing the starters for sure. IMG_4513.jpeg

I agree. We'll see how the muffs affects his draft status, if at all. It depends on what a team wants. McKinstry was not always lock down, but he generally had to deal with the best receiver too.

Mbakwe and Mincey I definitely get. I'm a little surprised by Brown getting this bump though. It's hard to read anything into what happens in an all star game, but Brown did not show me #3 CB ability. Did not look as fast. Maybe he had an off day or miscommunication on who to cover.

That's what elite players are supposed to do and that's why I'm saying he didn't live up to the hype that came with him. Granted, he wasn't a liability on the field, but "elite" wasn't in his defensive play.

I haven't seen any of them play. I do hear they're good though. No clue about Brown. And no clue about those ratings on the meme. I don't always believe memes. LOL
