Federal judge fines Trump and his lawyer $938,000 for ‘completely frivolous’ lawsuit

A federal judge in Florida sanctioned former President Trump and one of his attorneys Thursday, ordering them to pay nearly $1 million for filing what he said was a bogus lawsuit against Trump’s 2016 rival Hillary Clinton and others.

In a blistering filing, U.S. District Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks accused Trump of a “pattern of abuse of the courts” for filing frivolous lawsuits for political purposes, which he said “undermines the rule of law” and “amounts to obstruction of justice.”

“Here, we are confronted with a lawsuit that should never have been filed, which was completely frivolous, both factually and legally, and which was brought in bad faith for an improper purpose,” he wrote.

Citing Trump’s recent legal action against the Pulitzer Prize board, New York Atty. Gen. Letitia James, big tech companies and CNN, Middlebrooks described Trump as “a prolific and sophisticated litigant” who uses the courts “to seek revenge on political adversaries.”

“He is the mastermind of strategic abuse of the judicial process,” he wrote.

The ruling required Trump and his attorney, Alina Habba, to pay nearly $938,000 to the defendants in the case( Hillary Clinton et al)

Meta announced Wednesday that it is allowing former President Donald Trump back on Facebook and Instagram "in the coming weeks," ending a two-year suspension.

Trump was locked out of his accounts on Facebook and Instagram on Jan. 7. 2021, in the wake of the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, over concerns that his posts were inciting violence. Facebook later said the suspension will hold for two years.

How long before he starts breaking rules again and gets banned yet once more?
His willingness to actually return has yet to be determined. I think Trump has an established financial interest in pushing his own social media site, so I would imagine he would refrain from using a competitor service. Then again, he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, so who knows?

California Bar calls for disbarment of Trump lawyer John Eastman
The State Bar of California on Thursday filed disciplinary charges seeking the disbarment of attorney John Eastman for his role in then-President Donald Trump's effort to overturn his 2020 election loss to President Biden. Eastman was behind memos for Trump's campaign encouraging Vice President Mike Pence to block the certification of the 2020 election results, and urging key states to declare Trump the winner even though he lost. The State Bar accuses Eastman of continuing to promote the lie that the election was stolen after it was clear there was no evidence that fraud could have tipped the election. The State Bar also said Eastman's speech at a Jan. 6, 2021, rally "contributed to provoking a crowd to assault and breach the Capitol." [Los Angeles Times, The Hill]

The Manhattan district attorney’s office on Monday will begin presenting evidence to a grand jury about Donald J. Trump’s role in paying hush money to a porn star during his 2016 presidential campaign, laying the groundwork for potential criminal charges against the former president in the coming months, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

The grand jury was recently impaneled, and witness testimony will soon begin, a clear signal that the district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, is nearing a decision about whether to charge Mr. Trump.

On Monday, one of the witnesses was seen with his lawyer entering the building in Lower Manhattan where the grand jury is sitting. The witness, David Pecker, is the former publisher of The National Enquirer, the tabloid that helped broker the deal with the porn star, Stormy Daniels.

I hope he stays away from Twitter. I never really saw him on FB, but there were tons of retweets. He just uses up all the oxygen in the room everywhere he goes.
