Tua has had surgery per ESPN

A couple of points:

* This is not his plant foot, so he does not need as full a recovery to be a completely effective passer against LSU.
* The injury was not as severe as the injury last year, so he will heal more quickly than he did last year.
* That said, his mobility will be affected for the rest of the season. He has to learn to throw it away.
Perhaps the silver lining is now he will have no choice but to get rid of the ball on lost plays.

He was still playing on one leg two weeks after the last surgery. In fact, as I mentioned in the post thread, he said in an interview that he wasn't normal until May...

This is what has me so concerned. It seems that the team is going to have to get by the rest of the season with a less-than-100% Tua.

Where did you hear it’s not as severe?

Our offense can still hum with a less-than-100% Tua if he will play like an NFL QB and not try to run the ball or allow himself to take a solid hit. One thing is for sure, I've never seen a player have such an impact on his team. Everyone plays better when he's the QB. Everyone plays harder when he's the QB. And when he comes out, it's like someone let the air out of the tires of the offense. The whole team attitude seems to change. It's crazy.

a bit unfair.....27 TDs, 2 INTs.....he had a moment, but I'm doubting seriously if he was chasing a Heisman vote on that play....
On one play, I agree. I'm just looking at the bigger picture of what has happened during the season to date along with this play.

It was clear - last year he could barely get off the field after the high ankle sprain. This year he was barely limping after the injury. Recovery time from the surgery is minimal. It is the recovery time from the sprain that takes time. The less severe the sprain, the shorter the recovery time.

I think we are being a tad hard on Tua. He has improved greatly with regard to getting rid of the ball and the move he was injured on looked quite innocuous at first blush. Of course, we know differently so all I can hope for is a speedy and full recovery. Mac will be fine against Arkansas after a week's reps. I'm not sure he'll have had enough reps to do well at LSU. Time will tell.

Guys, let's be careful about verifying stuff before posting "I heard" stuff about injuries. The post I deleted above is wildly inaccurate. Also, when in doubt, don't quote...

It shouldn't affect his passing. But he may not want to run. Just pass in the pocket or hand it off. It shouldn't be as severe as last year. He wasn't even limping any walking in to the lockers.

Dr. B1GTide has spoken and it makes a lot of sense.

Sorry, I should say that this is based on what was clearly visible. There could be some things that were not as obvious. But I am ever the optimist.

Mac has the 2nd longest touchdown pass in Bama history on a slant pass to Waddle.

When he has been comfortable this year, he has played very well. But he needs either quick routes or better protection, because when he has someone in his face, he is a mess. He needs reps so he learns to deal with pressure more effectively.

sark seems to be pretty good at drawing up plays like that.

He did seem to be walking pretty well after the injury. Three weeks may make a huge difference in healing along with our training/medical staff.

You know, he really isn’t very good. I mean, he has to be a terrible decision maker if NFL teams are throwing an entire season away to draft him!
I just hope the young man comes back when healthy enough to do so, and not because feeling pressure to play against LSU.

The fact Tua was not limping going into the locker room was because he knew the cameras were on him and he toughed it out. ESPN reported after coming back in the ambulance he was limping, to what degree I don't know.
