Tua's Injury

The quotes I'm seeing coming out of this are still really positive, surprisingly so. The idea that Tua could play football next year is still kind of mind-blowing to me, all things considered but if that's what people that know far more than me are saying, then that's really great news.

Dr Andrews and his team are awesome. I have them to thank for having a functional left arm. When I was 15/16, I broke my arm in 4 places including the growth plate.

Happy for you that you've recovered so well, also that you haven't taken it for granted but are appreciative.

Read this in an article:

"Former Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pita suffered a similar right hip dislocation and fracture that Tua experienced during training camp in 2013 but managed to return to the field in week 14 of that season and even caught a touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings."

More likely than not Tua is able to play football by late next year..

Tua’s family has released a statement.

We would like to thank all of the Alabama family and everyone across the world for the prayers and outpouring of love and support for our son and our family. We felt the unceasing prayer, and words can’t express how overwhelming and uplifting that has been for us. We have total faith in God’s plan for Tua, and we know his plan is never wrong. God’s grace, mercy, love and faithfulness in our lives has never been more evident, despite this setback. The care and support Tua and our family has received is nothing short of amazing, and we can’t express our appreciation enough for Dr. Cain, Jeff Allen, Coach Saban, Tua’s teammates, the Alabama Athletics department, our pastors and all of the doctors and nurses that have done such an outstanding job of taking care of Tua. God Bless and Roll Tide!”

I'm not sure that is a good example. Pitta proceeded to dislocate the same hip 2 more times and had to retire.

Right, but at this point the focus is for him to at least gain his athletic ability back so that he can get drafted and make his money. It's impossible to know if he will re-injure the hip or suffer another major injury if he plays again. Point being, based on other examples, it looks like he will make enough of a recovery to play again. How healthy he remains after that remains to be seen..

So I have a question. Tua said that he couldn't wait to get back and watch the team play this Saturday. Given he had a recent surgery, would he remain in Locker room rehabbing? Secondly, would he be out on the field with other Seniors on Senior day? that will be telling whether he's leaving for sure.

I don't think that juniors are recognized on Senior Day anywhere - even those who cannot return. Bosa, for instance, was not recognized at OSU's senior day last year and his season was lost in similar fashion. It is not the right time/place to honor Tua, IMO. Maybe an ovation before the game starts, but Senior Day is for Seniors. It is special.

I hope that he is on the sidelines for the Auburn game, and then the post-season games that follow.

Time for the UA Engineering Department to develop a NASCAR style crew chief box for the sideline. We can get our backup QB's a better vantage point of the field, coms with the OC and keep Tua out of harms way.

I believe if you have a degree or graduating this winter, you will be honored with Seniors. Tua should be finished with a degree next year. So you are right.
