I was out tonight and heard that Nico got an offer I know Dre, Kendal Kelley, and Dj Flukner got invited I just wonder how many Bama recruits will be there?
Is one team comprised of Alabama commits and the other team comprised of players from the other 49 states?![]()
The coverage kicks off Sunday, Dec. 7 with the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic in Mobile, Ala. It then continues with in-depth reports starting on Dec. 13 from the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas and then Dec. 17 from The Crab Bowl. The Shrine Game features the top players in North Carolina and South Carolina, while the inaugural Crab Bowl showcases the top players in Maryland.
Rivals.com also will be at the Under Armour All-America Game in Orlando, with reports starting Dec. 29. The Under Armor Game will be played at 8 p.m. on Jan. 4.
Things really get heated up with coverage of the Army Game. Rivals.com's reporters begin coverage Dec. 28, when the players arrive for the game. It'll continue through Jan. 3, when the game kicks off at 1 p.m. NBC will broadcast the game live from San Antonio's Alamodome.
Rivals.com's No. 1-rated running back Bryce Brown (Wichita, Kan.) and Rivals.com's No. 3-rated offensive tackle Xavier Nixon (Fayetteville, N.C.) met last year at the U.S. Army National Combine in San Antonio. They have kept in touch but haven't seen each other since January. The two were reunited this past weekend in New York City, only this time to be honored during a high-profile media tour. Both Brown and Nixon are two of six finalists for the prestigious Player of the Year Award and were selected to represent the U.S. Army All-American Bowl for a promotional tour to the Big Apple.
The other four Player of the Year Award finalists were participating in promotional tours in Dallas/Houston and Los Angeles. Dre Kirkpatrick (Gadsden, Ala.) and Randall Carroll (Los Angeles) were in Los Angeles. Jamarkus McFarland (Lufkin, Texas) and Rueben Randle (Bastrop, La.) visited Dallas and Houston.
The game features many of the nation's best prospects, including the No. 1 player Bastrop, La., five-star receiver Rueben Randle. He's also joined by four other players ranked in the top 10 nationally, including No. 2-ranked Bryce Brown of Wichita East and No. 4-ranked Sheldon Richardson of St. Louis Gateway. Overall, 63 players on the roster rank in the top 10 at their position, including 10 players ranked No. 1 overall at their positions.
It's the deepest and most talented roster every to don the Black and Gold and White and Black jerseys. And that's saying a lot because the game has featured some amazing talent including stars like Tim Tebow, Terrelle Pryor, Reggie Bush, Adrian Peterson, Ted Ginn, Andre Smith, Brady Quinn, Noel Devine and countless others.
PLAYERS ARRIVE SUNDAY
Coverage kicks off Saturday, but really gears up with the players arrivals on Sunday. Rivals.com will be there exclusively to talk with the players as they land in San Antonio with a live message board blog with notes, news, recruiting tidbits and other key information. There will also be plenty of recruiting updates, photos and analyst Barry Every will share with us his All-Lobby Team.
Heading into next Saturday's U.S. Army All-American Bowl, both the East and West teams are loaded with talent on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. However, these games usually come down to quarterback play and gamebreakers, and on paper the West squad seems to have the edge led by speedster Randall Carroll and the nation's No. 1 prospect, Rueben Randle.
Randle, a 6-foot-3, 195-pounder who plays quarterback in high school, is as dynamic a playmaker as you'll find in the class of 2009. The Bastrop (La.) High star will line up at his future college position at wideout and will be hard to handle for the East defensive backs. Throw in Carroll, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound blur from Los Angeles Cathedral who can make opponents look foolish from the slot, and you have an amazing 1-2 punch for a potent West offense.
Randle and Carroll aren't the only talented wideouts on the West team. Macon (Miss.) Noxubee County standout Patrick Patterson, Gadsden (Ala.) Gadsden City star Kendall Kelly and Inglewood (Calif.) High wide receiver Shaquelle Evans are all big, physical targets and potential matchup problems.
The quarterbacks on the West lucky enough to throw the ball to this talented group of receivers are led by Mobile (Ala.) St. Paul's gunslinger AJ McCarron and Mission Viejo (Calif.) High signal caller Allan Bridgford while Sulphur Springs (Texas) High dual-threat Tyrik Rollison will be difficult to keep in the pocket.
Could the relationships that occur during the week of the All-American Bowl have an influence on whether we sign some of these guys? I'm particularly interested in the chemistry between AJ McCarron - R. Randall - K. Kelly. Hopefully McCarron has a great week and is able to sway these guys!!
SAN ANTONIO - Not a practice has gone by this week where Vontaze Burfict has not made a play to distinguish himself as the hardest hitter on the West defense and Thursday was no different. The following are the top performers for the West on Thursday.
WR Rueben Randle
6-3/195, Bastrop (La.) High
On Thursday, Randle moved around as well as he has all week. The nation's top-ranked recruit has been bothered by a sore hamstring. During extended one-on-one work, Randle was the only receiver that caught more than one pass. Randle went up against Dre Kirkpatrick twice, and both times came away with the catch.
But there is a reason Allan Bridgford, AJ McCarron and Tyrik Rollison were invited to participate in this Saturday's U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
"They are all gifted quarterbacks and they've all shown me something this week," said West offensive coordinator Matt Logan. "We're going to put all three names in a hat, we are going to pull one out and the first name chosen will start. Then we're just going to rotate every three series.
"If one of them moves the chains more, he'll play more if the game is close late. But I want them all to have an opportunity to showcase their skills."
