News Article: UA License Plate Redesigned

I didn't mean to sound too picky and I'm certainly glad that we finally have a decent (Alabama) tag here in Georgia. Just don't really like the "RT". I would much prefer an "UA" instead.

We saw a red Chevy SUV with vanity UA plates from Tennessee while on I 4 in Orlando last week. They looked awesome.

This thread is funny and lends credence to the joke about Alabama fans:

Q: How many Alabama fans does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Five. One to change the bulb and four to stand around and talk about how great the old one was.

When the current (elephant in the background) tag came out the hue and cry was deafening. Nobody liked it. The elephant has an earring. You can't tell what it is. It looks like the tag is dirty. The elephant is hokey. He's too big. He's too dark. He's too light. Yadda, yadda, yadda.

Now the old one is the best and the new one is again horrible.

For those who don't like the new tag, let's see an alternative. Go ahead. Put it out there for everyone to see. And comment on.

Basket Case, I remember those days. I wish I could find the thread because I just searched a little for it, but all heck broke loose there for a few days over outrage because people liked the old one.

Personally I got the new tag last week and I like it better than my old one because it does look cleaner.

As I recall, there was a reason the state wouldn't give "UA". I think we were offered "AU" and turned it down.

You are correct. Another group here in Georgia has a specialized tag that starts with the call letters UA. I was told that the lady at the state tag office offered AU and said it could be Alabama University. They explained to her what AU means and accepted RT for Roll Tide.

To get this straight - do all UA tags have to begin with "RT" there? Here, if you don't ask for vanity letters, they began with "APP" with the older tags. I have "TIDHSV." If I gave up the Bama donation and tag, I could squeeze in "TIDEHSV." It's not right to impress you into RT," if I'm understanding that...

Having seen a few of the new tags over the weekend, I've got to say it looks better in person. I only wish they had them available when I got my tags renewed last month. Oh well, I can wait until next February.

The "RT" is for us displaced Bama fans in Jawja on the Jawja Alabama plates.

All of the Bama tags start with RT, Florida is UF, Georgia Tech is GT, Georgia is GA and Clemson is CU unless you want to pay extra and have something put on them. The only tag that is different is the Auburn tag (don't ask me why)and they are still required to have the name of the county at the bottom, regular letters (NO AU) and numbers.

Thank God.

The current design is awful, I mean just totally Craptacular, as is anything with the thankfully going away constipated elephant logo.

The new one isn't spectacular, but it's a definite improvement.

First time I can remember looking forward to renewing my tag.

I just got my tag renewed today, and sadly they wouldn't let me keep the old one. I begged them too. I really dont like this new one, and the lady told me "Oh, well. You can build a birdhouse with the old one now."

Maybe I'll get used to the new one after it gets on my car. I guess I'll be somewhat content just to support Bama on the road. It is better than the standard state tag however.
